Rivers began his coaching career with the Magic in 1999, where he coached for more than four seasons. Rivers won the coach of the year award in 2000 after his first year with the Magic. That season, he led the team that was picked to finish last in the league to a near playoff berth. He made the post-season in his next three years as coach, but was fired in 2003 ...

10 Years of Ainge: Ainge's best draft 2004?

Posted on June 15, 2013 at 5:15 AM Comments comments (1)

I think Danny's best draft was in 2006 when he traded for Rondo and drafted Powe in the second round. I think 2004 is a very close second. In 2004 Ainge drafted Al Jefferson with the 15th pick. Then Ainge drafted Delonte West at the 24th pick, and Tony Allen at the 25th pick. That proved to be the core of the Celtics youth movement for a couple of years...

10 Years of Ainge: Ainge pulls off trade for Powe

I decided to talk about Danny's draft day deal from 2006 for Powe, because of the Spurs Gary Neal who had one of the best games of any bench player in Finals history.Gary Neal made six 3-pointers while scoring 24 as San Antonio went 16 of 32 from behind the arc, rolling to the third biggest victory in Finals history.

10 Years of Ainge: The loss of Posey

Something as simple as a hug before each game indicated what kind of teammate James Posey was. James was the Celtics 6th man in 2008 when they returned to greatness with banner 17. James had all the intangibles that you needed from a 6th man. He was tough, and gritty a perfect fit on a KG led Celtics team.

10 Years of Ainge: The Signing of P.J Brown

I can remember seeing the news come in about the Celtics grabbing P.J Brown after the All-Star break. It was a move that fined tuned their front court. The Celtics had very good young bigs coming off the bench with Powe, and Big Baby. Perkins as well was a young starting center who never endured a long playoff run. Much like Cassell was insurance for Rondo. Brown was insurance for the younger ...

10 Years of Ainge: Tony Allen's departure

Ainge gets a lot of flack for not inking Tony Allen after the 2010 NBA Finals. When I think about this years later. I forget that Tony Allen wanted a bigger role. He was stuck behind Paul Pierce and Ray Allen at the time. He wanted more than a bench role, but could have Danny done more to keep him? T...

10 Years of Ainge: The O'neal's

The Celtics were just coming off a NBA Finals loss to the Lakers in a hard fought 7 game series. The Celtics lost their starting center Kendrick Perkins in game six, and the C's would have probably won with Perk in the paint in game seven. Anyways, the Celtics wouldn't have Perk until late January or sometime in February of the ...

10 Years of Ainge:Ainge pulls off draft night deal for Rondo

Without a doubt this was Danny's second best move if not the best someday. The trade of Antoine Walker in 2003 was linked to Rondo in 2006. So maybe that deal wasn't such a bad thing. Even though the Celtics probably would have traded another player to get Rondo. Jiri Welsch was involved in both deals.
