How much small ball will the Celtics play?

Posted by shawn cassidy on October 1, 2012 at 11:55 PM

The Celtics have the best point guard to execute small ball. Throughout the 2012 playoff run. The Boston Celtics played small ball most of the time. They lost Jermaine O'neal (good riddance), and Chris Wilcox mid-way through the year in 2012. The Celtics were limited with bigs, or at least bigs that could produce after they lost JO, and Wilcox. The Celtics signed guys like Ryan Hollins, and Sean Willimas before the playoffs, but they had many liabilities. So the Celtics had no choice but to play small ball.

"We played a lot of small ball last year, with Paul at the 4 and Mickael Pietrus [at the 3], but obviously we have Jeff this year, a couple other guys, so, we can mix it up a little bit more this year, as far as depth," said Rondo.

The Celtics had great success with  small lineups last year. This season the Celtics have even more guys that can contribute through small ball. Jeff Green, and Lee are two additions that could send the Celtics over the top on that front. Doc's been expressing with this seasons versatility on the roster. Rivers has mentioned he'll give  some heavy thinking on mixing-and-matching  units that allow Boston to give other teams issues.

"[Rondo] will be very happy. We put [the small lineups] in yesterday, but we didn’t work on it. Today, almost exclusively, we'll have small lineups on the floor," said Rivers. "We’re going to change them all around, so that will be fun. This is the first year that we’ve actually really worked on it. We’re going to work on it every day."

The Celtics will have a lineup ready for any occasion. The Celtics can go big, or small. Whatever they need to do, they can do with the depth this season.

Make Rondo happy!!!

The thing is, we should be able to go big too, especially if Darko works out at all.

Will be able to go big with many lineups. Or small teams need to fear that.
