FROM THE AP:
Police say former NBA player Javaris Crittenton has been charged with murder after a woman was shot on an Atlanta street. Crittenton Police spokesman Carlos Campos says police have secured a murder warrant for the arrest of Crittenton, who played at Georgia Tech, in connection with the shooting death of 22-year-old Jullian Jones on Aug. 19. Campos said Crittenton is not in custody and is wanted.
Police said Jones was walking with a group of people on the city's southwest side when she was shot.
Investigators say they don't believe the woman was the intended target. Campos said the motive appears to be retaliation for a robbery in April, in which Crittenton was a victim.
Crittenton most recently played in the NBA with the Washington Wizards and was involved in a gun altercation with Gilbert Arenas. He is on the roster of the NBDL's Dakota Wizards.
Crittenton didn't play last season because of an ankle injury. He was given a 38-game suspension by the NBA after he and Arenas acknowledged bringing guns into the locker room following a dispute stemming from a card game on a team flight.
Crittenton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge on Jan. 25, 2010, and received probation. He wasn't re-signed by the Wizards.
The Charlotte Bobcats signed Crittenton to a non-guaranteed contract before last season but he was waived Oct. 15.
Crittenton was the 19th overall pick by the Los Angeles Lakers in 2007. He played little with Los Angeles and was sent to Memphis in the Pau Gasol deal his rookie year. He was traded to Washington in December 2008.
Crittenton averaged 5.3 points and 1.8 assists in 113 NBA games.
I guess the shock level isn't their for me on this. He was in trouble before with guns. I feel sorry for the victim, and to her family for this act of violence, and in result her death. Crittenton is innocent until proven guilty though.
Charles Barkley advises Derrick Rose
Barkley still believe the NBA season will be lost. I hate to say it,but I believe him. The urgency is not their, and the mountain seems too high at this point. I agree with him about the players heading over seas. I think it's okay for the guys trying to make a name. As for the stars it's a waste, and why not go back to school. That's a valid idea, and I doubt anyone takes that advice.
"Well, I think it would be a mistake for Derrick Rose to go overseas," Barkley said Thursday on "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000. "I think any great player has got too much at stake. You could go there and hurt yourself.
"If you are as great as Derrick Rose, why would you risk your NBA career and contract by going overseas? I just don't think that's very smart."
There's no indication Rose is seriously considering playing overseas. All-Star Deron Williams is the biggest name to sign with an overseas team. The Turkish club that signed Williams also was in early contract negotiations with the Oklahoma City Thunder's Kevin Durant, according to ESPN's Marc Stein, and it had been pursuing Kobe Bryant.
Barkley has advice for NBA stars, including the 22-year-old Rose, if the lockout is prolonged. And Barkley believes the lockout will wipe out the 2011-12 season.
"If I were somebody like Derrick Rose, I would go back and work on my degree," Barkley said. "I think some of the lesser players are going to go over and play, because they can make some good money.
