Celtics mixed up in Bynum trade rumors

Posted by shawn cassidy on December 29, 2013 at 12:30 PM

If you haven't seen the reports out of Cleveland. Andrew Bynum has been suspended indefinitely by the Cavaliers for conduct detrimental to the team. With that they're looking to deal him, or let him go. From all reports Bynum has played his last game with the Cavs. So that leads me to the Celtics being mixed up in another trade rumor.

Bill Simmons @BillSimmons

3 - From what I hear, Bynum wants to end up with Heat or Clips. But he'd have to be released + Cavs want to trade him (see @WindhorstESPN).

Bill Simmons  @BillSimmons

4 - Also hearing he'd consider Boston - Celts have expirings/assets to get him (if they wanted him). His ideal teams are Miami/Clips though.

The likeliest scenario involves Cleveland waiving Bynum before January 7th, the date his $6 million contract becomes guaranteed. I don't see a trade happening with any of the teams rumored, unless they feel Bynum can help, or if they can shed some salary, on the other hand the Cavs may just want to waive him with the possible deals out there waiting for them.

As for the Celtics in the mix, that sounds one sided from Simmons. Bynum may consider the Celtics, but do they consider him? The Celtics won't go after him if he's waived because they want to stay away from the luxry tax. As for dealing him, they would have to get rid of a guy who loves the game of basketball, and I don't think Bynum does. Bynum has seen better days, and  I don't think he'll return to All-Star level Bynum anytime soon.

We don't need that junk on the Celtics bottom line.
