Rondo Ravings: The Eye of the Storm

Posted by paul on August 19, 2013 at 8:50 AM

As Shawn mentioned, the Globe's Gary Washburn unleashed a perfect twitter dagger at Rondo last night ...

NBA source familiar with #celtics say team desperately needs another asst coach who can bond with Rondo, someone he can relate to and trust

http://redsarmy.com/2013/08/19/your-morning-dump-do-the-cs-need-a-rondo-only-assistant-coach/

One has to admire Washburn's understanding of how Twitter works.  This twitter was surely  calculated to touch off a storm, and it certainly did that.  It suggests a lot without saying much.  It strongly implies that Rondo and Stevens have already fallen out (the word "desperately" does that), and that Rondo is someone so difficult to deal with, and such a diva, that he basically has to have a member of the coaching staff recruited for him, and assigned to him, as a kind of handler.  This would, I presume, make him the only player in NBA history with a designated assistant coach (setting aside position trainers, rehab trainers and such).   If Gary Washburn doesn't already have a black belt as a Twitter Ninja, he should certainly be given one now.

Bob Ryan must be soo proud.

What makes this all the more fascinating is that,  just earlier in the day, a Washburn article had come out bearing words of high praise for Rondo from Paul Pierce.  Pierce said that Rondo is one of the best players in the league, and that he is ready to be the leader and the face of the Celtics 'without question'.    Isn't it interesting that Washburn would unleash this poison tweet later the same day, after publishing such words  of Rondo praise?   CAn you blame  Rondo for scorning these 'journalists'?  What is it with the Globe writers/exwriters and Rondo?  It's time for Bob Ryan, Dan Shaughnasty, Gary Washburn, etc., to explain what this is all about.  Every time Rondo turns around, there's another dagger in his back.

Redsarmy is bold enough to suggest that Washburn's 'source' is either Doc or Paul Pierce himself.  I wouldn't put it past either of those guys,as I think they are both proficient practioners of the art of schmoozing the media.  I don't think it's them, though.  As troubled as their dealings with Rondo may have been over the years, I think those two guys deep down have a pretty big warm place in their hearts for Rondo.  Then again, I reckon Allen does too, though it's buried pretty deep ...  and there might be some gamesmanship involved, as both these guys probably expect to be competing against Rondo soon enough.  Regardless, I don't doubt that folks like Washburn have reliable sources for hate quotes against Rondo on speed dial.

Meanwhile, for most of the summer, Rondo seems to have been keeping a very low profile.  One might assume that this means that Rondo intends to let his game do the talking this year, which sounds like a good approach for a guy with a lot to prove on a lot of levels.

The thing is, Greg, if these guys have a legitimate reason for their animus against Rondo, they really have a responsibility, I think, to tell us, or at least give us a basic idea, what it is.

Lol at the twitter ninja!!
The first paragraph explain exactly why I don't like the tweet a little bit. It's just another opportunity for the haters to hate on Rondo, and they've already been doing it too much!!
If people could just be a little more honest with themselves, they could understand that even if the rumor is true, there's nothing wrong with it. I mean, Rondo will be the leader on a new team, a young team, and everybody will look up at him. Moreover, he has a lot to prove coming from an injury. There's nothing wrong in needing someone to trust and that can listen to you when the pressure become too much. And it can't be one of your teammates.

It's something Rondo needs to need more than most, Morena, but the tweet makes it sound sinister.

That's exactly what's wrong about a lot of articles about Rondo. He does normal things and they make them look weird or wrong.

And even if they weren't normal, you know?
