I don't often do posts about potential deals, and such, but with the Celtics roster in question. I say why not start now. I was looking at some free agents this summer, and one player stuck out to me. It wasn't that long ago when West was rumored to be in a Boston uniform. With that chance coming up once again. I think the Celtics should explore West once again. David West is 32 right now,and he's obviously a guy that the Celtics can't plan a future around. But he provides a toughness that the Celtics lack up front, and have for a long time. A few questions come to mind though. A) Will West want to leave Indiana? B) Can the Celtics pay him enough?
If I am not mistaken the Celtics will have a mid-level exception to play with. The Celtics could pay West half of what he makes now, but I guess another question remains. Would the Pacers want to pay West 10 million a season at his? He's proven to be a big part of the Pacers. His rebounding isn't great, but his defense in note worthy. His offense is something the Celtics need. He can post up very well, and he can provide inside scoring. An option that KG backs away from usually.
I'm not worried about West being 32. I think Danny could or should bring him in on a three deal. What if the Celtics work on a sign and trade sending Bass and another for West? If you deal Bass who is set to make 6 million, and Lee who is set to make 5 million. You can bring in West for what he makes now. That will also leave the Celtics with the mid-level exception. West has been crucial and a big time player so far for the Pacers in their quest for long playoff run. Here's West's career stats.
West is a consistent guy. I think he's an upgrade obviously from what the Celtics have,or an upgrade if Bass is utilized in a sign and trade, and hopefully West is an option for the Celtics this coming summer.
