Celtics Title Town

Right now the big story has to be the Boston Celtics. Their is so much reading out there on the topic. I came across this statement by one of my least favorite sports writers. JA Adande over at ESPN had this to say about Pierce staying in green.

"If Hakeem Olajuwon could end his career in a Toronto Raptors uniform then anyone can end his career in a Raptors uniform. Even Paul Pierce.

This does bring up an interesting issue, one that Ainge and the Boston head honchos will have to wrestle with: just how "Celticy" are these guys. Only John Havlicek has scored more points in a Celtics uniform than Pierce. Pierce has played more games as a Celtic than Bill Russell, Larry Bird, Bob Cousy -- everyone but Hondo and Robert Parish.

Does that give Pierce immunity? I don't think you can think of him the same way we did Russell and Cousy, because they didn't play in an era of salary cap and luxury tax. If they keep Pierce because of the sentimental attachment, his contract could hinder the Celtics more than his play helps them."

I just don't like outsiders claiming they know who's a true Celtic, or the Celtic way. Pierce may not have the titles, or MVP's as a Russell, or Bird. But Pierce was a generations Bird (not skill level), but as a figure. Would it be in the Celtics best interest to trade Pierce? Honestly I don't see a trade that makes the Celtics better now, and I don't see a team trading a young player that you could build a team around. It's just a waste. 

This team was built around the next two-three years with or without Rondo this season. The Celtics have needs. But trading Pierce, and KG would do nothing. It may give the Celtics cap space. But let this team wow people, or let them fight with pride until their fall.
