Should we worry about last game execution with the Celtics? A veteran team that has won a championship? It's not the same team from 2008, but it's the same core four that won it all. They know when to play in the clutch right? Of course they do, and they will continue to(I think). Last night the Celtics allowed Al Horford carry the Hawks back into last night's game, and the Celtics almost gave up the lead with 3.3 seconds to go in the game. Daniels had to foul Al Horford to prevent an easy hoop in the final 3 seconds. Horford missed one of the two free throws with a chance to tie the game. Such a lucky break for the Celtics. He hits both freebies, and the Celtics do get one more shot, but overtime was likely in that case.
As Celtics coach Doc Rivers explained, Daniels should never had been in that position.
"We wanted to go small with one big," Rivers said of the personnel swap that saw Daniels replace Brandon Bass in the final moments. "The mistake we made -- and we were trying to scream (to alert the players) -– Marquis should’ve been guarding the ball out of bounds, and Kevin (Garnett) should’ve been on (Al) Horford. They got mixed up, and we got lucky.”
I was shocked to see Horford not even covered by one big, and really no big man in the rear view mirror for Horford. So should we worry about the Celtics. In the past two games the Celtics have lost a 4th quarter lead, and they have butchered many final plays. I think they can fix them, but some of the problems still remain from the regular season.

I read a fan's view at Celtics Blog that this miscue may have been deliberate, that Doc may have been trying to lure the Hawks into essentially putting Horford on the line, hoping he'd be rusty there. It's an interesting idea.
Hmm. Not sure about that one, but not a bad thought. That would be a Coach Pop type move.

it was all planned..it was a gamble indeed..the worst case in that play is a tie ball game,while if they allowed JJ to get the ball,there's a big chance that he'll be attempting a three.........luckily we are now talking bout the missed free throws rather than a made three....a great gamble,lucky indeed/
At first I poo poo'd the idea, but the more I think about it, the more sense it makes to me.
