Celtics Morning Joe: Doc and Danny meeting today

Posted on June 19, 2013 at 5:00 AM

I suppose we may find out today what the future holds for Doc and the Celtics.

Doc Rivers will be in Boston on Wednesday and plans to sit down with Danny Ainge, league source says.

As much as Rivers wanted Clippers job, Boston management wanted to use deal to speed up rebuilding process. Ainge and Rivers aren't at odds.

I guess we don't know who the guilty party is. Some could say Doc was the one who wanted this, or one could say Danny wanted this. I can see these two having a press conference soon, (if Doc stays) and putting on a show for the Celtics faithful. I'm kind  of numb on this topic this morning. Sometimes you hit a wall on something, and I hit it right now, and I'm still not over last nights game 6. As the story moves along today. Maybe I'll get over the numb feeling that I have at the moment.

“I am meeting with Doc (today),” Ainge confirmed to the Herald last night. “He’s coming to town. He was coming to town before the events of (yesterday), so we were planning on meeting (today) anyway.”

Some more Doc and Danny talk from ESPN.

If he's in, Ainge and his coach can chat about spin control. Rivers has maintained a public silence since Boston's playoff exit, which affords him the ability to downplay his indecision. A master communicator, Rivers can minimize the Los Angeles tease and suggest his loyalty to the Celtics made it impossible to jump ship (even if that might not be the full truth).

Publicly, Rivers will have no problem winning back a fan base left squeamish by the idea of losing its longstanding helmsman (only Red Auerbach has coached more games and for a longer duration than Rivers, who is a mere 11 regular-season wins behind Tommy Heinsohn for second-most in franchise history). Most will forgive and forget.

I look forward to see how they spin this.
