In the 2007 season the Celtics would have a rough season, and that word doesn't cover the season that the Celtics actually had. A 18 game losing streak, and tons of injuries. Pierce was dealing with injuries for the first time in his career. As for Lebron James he was leading the Cavs to one of the best seasons in franchise history.
The Cavs would make it the NBA finals in 2007,and it looked like James was finally taking the NBA over. The Cavs would go down 4-0 to the Spurs. The Celtics missed the playoffs in 2007,and they finished 24-58. We know the Celtics missed out on the top two picks, and they traded for two stars in Ray Allen, and KG. The Celtics would become title contenders, and the defending Eastern Conference champs had to be Lebrons Cavs.
The Celtics took the league by storm, and they finished the regular season at 66-16,and they had the best record in the league. The Cavs had a below average regular season with only 45 wins, but the Cavs would make the playoffs.
The Cavs would make quick work of the Wizards, and the Celtics looked like a dominate team at home, but on the road they struggled, and the best team in the NBA found themselves in a game seven in the first round. The Celtics would destroy the Hawks, and they would meet up with the Cavs in the second round. Paul Pierce would meet James in the post season for the first time.
The playoff series between the Celtics, and Cavs in 2008 was highlighted by fierce defense, and with tough defense comes low scoring games. The series was highlighted by a few incidents. It was a testy series as expected. In game four in Cleveland Lebron would go in for a dunk on a fast break opportunity, but Pierce would wrap him up,and the two went into the crowd, but James mom was right in the area, and she came up to the action, and Lebron said something to her.
The series played out as expected. The home team won all of their games, and it set the stage for the epic game 7.The 7th game will live on as one of the greatest games in NBA history. It was full of drama, and the hottest story from the game was the duel between James, and Pierce. This game reminded some of the '88 classic between Bird, and Dominique. Pierce would tear through the first quarter, and James would pick it up towards the end of the quarter. The Celtics had complete control, but the Cavs wouldn't back off. It was a fight, but the two men riding this car were James, and Pierce. They matched each others shots, and this game didn't disappoint any NBA fans unless you were the Cavs. In the end the Celtics would hang on after the Cavs cut the lead to one with a few minutes to go. Paul would beat out James for a loose ball, and it was the classic scene from that game.
Piece ended the game with 41,and James ended the game with 45. The Celtics would win the NBA championship, but the rivalry between Pierce, and James finally had some implications involved. Pierce had struggled in the entire series on offense, but he was a beast on the defensive end. The Celtics, and Cavs story is far from over.
The epic game seven added to Paul's leagacy, and he out dueled one of the best players in the league. Paul hasn't been given credit for his talent, and all he can do is win,and beat his rivals.
