I think will always remember Daniels for one of the troubling moments in Celtics history. Daniels hurt his spinal cord, and he was forced to miss the remainder of the season. The Celtics had a major weakness after the Celtics couldn't re-sign Tony Allen, and the loss of Daniels gave the Celtics major problems on the wing. The Celtics couldn't rely on the undersized duo of West and Wafer on the wing.
Danny looked hard at the team. He noticed with Shaq in the line up,and with Baby playing the crunch time minutes the Celtics might be better with out Perkins. At least on paper for the short time Perkins was injured. The Celtics banked on JO coming back from his knee injury. So Danny pulled the trigger that sent Perkins out of town, and Jeff Green into town.
Daniels was a unique player in today's game. His inside game is like no other player a this size. His crafty moves to free his body for an open shot is remarkable. His outside shooting is an odd thing to watch, but he's effective outside as well. Daniels is a lock down defender, and that was a major key for the Celtics.
I will remember Daniels for his game on the court, and for the deal that never happened. Ainge wanted to bring in Daniels for more money, and Daniels already told Ainge he would come to town for the 1.9 million on the table. The sign and trade to give Daniels more money never happened, and Daniels true to his word came to Boston for less money.
Daniels second season with the Celtics was much better then his first. Even though Daniels went down in February. Daniels faced some injuries in his first season, and he lost his spot to Tony Allen. We got only a small taste of Daniels this season, and what he's able to do. I would welcome him back to Boston, but I wouldn't bank on him playing a lot. If the Celtics work him out,and they see good signs from him then sign him. I wish the best for Daniels, and he was missed after the injury.
