Celtics Morning Joe: Celtics falling down in one ranking, and on the rise with another

Posted by shawn cassidy on January 7, 2014 at 5:00 AM

The Celtics have resurfaced on the tanking chart at ESPN. Don't they add to this entire tanking problem? I'm telling you, tanking is a storyline that's being over blown, The Raptors are case and point. With ESPN having this chart, it feeds the machine, and so I'm I suppose by speaking on this.

Tank Rank by the darlings at ESPN

The Boston Celtics disappeared from ESPN Insider's Tank Rank last month. Losers of seven of their last eight, they've reappeared this week at No. 7. From curator Chad Ford:

With Rajon Rondo getting closer to a comeback, the moment of decision for the Celtics is coming. The team is just three games ahead of the Magic and Kings for the second-worst record in the league. They also aren't that far away from winning their division and having home-court advantage in the first round of the playoffs. Yes, the East is that messed up.

In another ranking the Celtics have hit the bottom at ESPN's power rankings. They rank number 28 out of 30 teams.I don't really look at these numbers, I think it's too college football for me, thankfully will have a playoff system with NCAAF. To my friend Nick, congrats on FSU. Wish the Buckeyes didn't choke this season.

ESPN Boston

The Boston Celtics plummeted a week-worst nine spots to No. 28 in this week's ESPN.com NBA Power Rankings.

Writes curator Marc Stein: "The Celts have lost seven of eight. Four tough games (Nuggets, Clippers, Warriors and Blazers) remain on their five-game swing through the West. Do the math and you're inevitably moved to proclaim that wunderkind coach Brad Stevens' days of flirting with the Atlantic Division lead are a memory."

I think that the team is tanking for real now. The Lee move shows this. How can anyone claim that isn't a tank move? Danny gave this team a chance, which they bombed, so he's going into tank mode. This far into a dreadful season, you can't really blame hiim.

I disagree Paul. The lee move like shawn said in the other post was to keep Crawford and Avery. with Rondos return coming soon. Lee is looking at no time. Lee wasnt the future, and he wasnt a difference maker for this team.

If the Celtics traded one of their starters. Then I would have to say were tanking, but trading Lee had to be done in some manner, even trading Bass would be.

I'm sorry, guys, but it's the same difference. Yes, I understand the money issues involved. That's why Danny made the move. It's about next year. It is, thus, a tank move, because it makes us worse this year - a lot worse - Lee was looking like a key guy if we were going to make any kind of run - and it starts positioning for next year. Let's call it a give up on the season move. I understand that this blog is now committed, like every other blog, to buying into the team's bs PR. that's pathetic and I'm calling it out just as I do on every other blog. It's a blatant tank move. Which at this point in the season I do not think is improper. I'm not actually against the move. I'm for calling it what it is.

About Lee losing time upon Rondo's return: I doubt it. Lee has been very productive off the bench this season. The person whose minutes would be threatened would be Crawford. In fact, as I understand it, Bayless is a Crawford type of player, which I think gives some indication of how much Crawford's stock has sunk since he won player of the week. In life, how one responds to difficulty shows a lot of what one is made of. How one responds to success can be even more definitive. Crawford really needs to work on that. I'D say that the cap room is mainly for Bradley
