Melo recruiting Rondo?

Posted by Morena on December 8, 2013 at 8:30 AM

An interesting report came out this week: a source said that Melo is trying to recruit Rondo to play for the Knicks.

And it's not some unknow person to say that, but it's Steve Smith, who coached them both at Oak Hill Accademy.

"Whether he stays in Boston or not who knows. I know, talking to Melo, he's recruiting Rajon to come to New York," Smith said in the interview. "Melo thinks he'll come too. You never know about that stuff though. I think either way, Rajon will be fine."

Steve Smith had some interesting things to say about Rondo in the past, and he appreciate the guy. I don't think he's lying, no need to.

If this was just a lie, he could have just shut up.

When asket about this interview, Melo didn't confirm and he just replied:

"C'mon, man. In my book, that's tampering,"

The players in fact, are not allowed to recruit other players that are under contract with another team.

Melo is probably doing nothing illegal, maybe he just talked to Smith telling him how much he would like to play with Rondo. Many players in the league had positive word for Rondo when asked about it, and Melo is just one of those who would appreciate to play with him. Then again, who wouldn't? A guy that can make everyone around him better is good for everybody.

Asked about this situation, Rondo briefly commented:

“Well, (Smith) must know something that I don’t know,” Rondo said with one of the season’s great non sequiturs."

I'm pretty sure that even if the knew something about it, he wouldn't have said anything different

I don't see Rondo playing for the Knicks. Honestly, I don't see Rondo going nowhere unless the Celtics decide to trade him, but our path seems far from this possibility, as for the first time, it seems like they're building around him.

How about you flip that. The Celtics can offer up a max deal next season. Even though I don't want Melo. But no way does Rondo leave. Brad Stevens and him or good with each other.

Yeah I agree flip that up. New York has been ran poorly for the past decade, and they have nothing to show for their high payroll. They gave up everything for Melo and it hasn't panned out.

Which begs the question. Would you guys want Melo on this team? At what price?

Think about.... Carmelo Anthony under coach Brad Stevens and playoff champion Rajon Rondo. They might actually get him to buy into defense and passing.

I kid, I kid....

Honestly, I don't want Melo on my team, even if he's really good.

That's why I'm split on it. You know Melo would be deadly under the right direction of coaching and proper management. What he has in NY right now is an utter mess. It's horrid over there. But like I said, the price would have to be right. No way in hell would he get anywhere close to what NY is paying him at this moment. That cripples a team to pay that high for ONE player.

Right, moreover, he doesn't look like an easy guy to coach to me. And if he's not willing to cooperate, he can mess up the whole locker room.
