Gerald Wallace has been one of those storylines this season that takes many twists and turns. He keeps saying he doesn't know what his role is. But now it seems like his role has been finally narrowed down as the C's 6th man.His initial response wasn't great, but after the Celtics won Wednesday night, and with Wallace providing a spark off the bench. Wallace sounds a bit more flexible about his bench role.
"I don't really know what to think," Wallace, a 13-year NBA veteran, initially said of the move. "Like I said, I don't know my role. I don't know what's going on. I just go; when they ask me to play, I'll play. We'll just go from there."
After a nine-point performance in 23 minutes off the bench in the C's first victory on Wednesday and at practice Thursday, Wallace seemed to have warmed up to the role. A postgame meeting with team president Danny Ainge must have helped, too.
"Coming off the bench this late in my career is pretty good. I don't think I can average 30, 40-45 minutes anymore," Wallace said Thursday. "It helps our team out bringing that energy off the bench."
Wallace off the bench was a move that was needed, and with his energy level it's a great marriage.
