Stern and the NBA may stop Celtics-Clippers deal

Posted by shawn cassidy on June 20, 2013 at 1:20 PM

This trade has seemed one sided from the start, and it looks like the NBA thinks so as well. I'm saying the Clippers get the better deal. Here's the lowdown of what's being thrown around out there.

Mark Heisler @MarkHeisler

#Celtics, #Clippers in lockdown--but NBA has problem w/twin transactions. Team official: 'NBA guys say they don't see how this can happen'

Marc Stein     @ESPNSteinLine

Source tells ESPN that Celts & Clips have today begun discussing new trade scenarios to try to satisfy league's misgivings on these deals

Mark Heisler @MarkHeisler

NBA has to sign off--and freeing KJ-DAJ trade Doc can't be contingent on #Celtics freeing Doc. Teams now sorting it out w/NBA lawyers?

Here's my feelings on this. Danny will deal KG to the Clippers, and he will buy out Pierce, and he will let go of Doc instead of trading him? Who the hell really knows?

Doc is out regardless of this happening. As for KG and Pierce? KG will ask for a trade at this point.

I won't cry if this lousy trade doesn't go through

Or KG might retire, which gives us cap space, right? Unless there is a sincere believe that Jordan just needs the right situation and the right pg to thrive...

The more I think about this, the more it looks to me like both organizations just wanted to pretend that they were trying to do something, then it's back to status quo. So another year of Blame It On Rondo.

I guess what all this proves is that the Celtics really are family - and even more dysfunctional than we thought. Maybe there is hope to be found in that.

@Paul. For sure both teams playing a dance. They know very well how hard it is to actually trade a coach.KG retiring does give cap relief..

I just listened to Stern basically say 'hell no' to the deal, and it made me realize what an absurd dance it has been, with Stern obviously being complicit (he waited till now to put the kaibosh on?). Maybe it will still actually happen, but the primary goal seems to have been for the two teams to at least look like they were trying to do something.

Here's what would make me feel better: some sign that these guys were actually talking about what went wrong last season, and how to make it better, and please let's start by making KG, Paul and Rondo co-captains, and let's finally start building this team around Rondo.
