Celtics Blog Post New Entry

"In Rondo we trust"

Posted by shawn cassidy on December 5, 2012 at 1:10 AM

It's the slogan around here, and it's something I adopted here early last year. It was the norm to love Paul Pierce around here for so many years. Why shouldn't we? He's been here 14-15 years, and he's been a true Celtic. He never once asked to be traded during the rough times. He stuck with this franchise, and it was easy to fall for Pierce. With today's Celtics many of the young fans latch onto Rondo. He's the new star of the team, and the most dynamic.  For the older fans, and some of the mid-old fans. We latch onto Rondo because he is old school in a new school world.

He plays the true point guard role, and his bottom line is winning. It's not  about getting Nike commercials like one Mr. Rose. But nothing is wrong with commercials if your a professional athlete. I get it. But for Rondo it's about the art. It's about dishing the next perfect pass, and it's about the next team win.

When the guys seem lost. Rondo seems to understand them. He knows how to find them in spots that  many can't find them. He's a student of the game if he likes or not. When the team seems out of direction. He'll be the guide. He'll lead the Celtics destination.

"It was difficult. I love being around the guys," Rondo said. "I love coming in, practicing, just being around them, on the team plane. But I had to miss that for a couple days, but other than that, everything's back to normal."

Rondo seems to have a spiritual  communication with his team. He's been through a spiritual transformation year after year. Rondo has been better than expected, and  it's been apart of our  wildest dreams. Rondo's been widening boundaries for older fans. Rondo is something to all of us. For some he's irresponsible, and maybe immature. For some he's a leader that protects teammates. For me he's an artist, and a winner.

Rondo leaves me with a feeling of freedom with no limitation. His  knowledge of the game seems  unlimited. Their is a truth, and wisdom to what he does. Rondo will return from a two game suspension. Some fans jumped off the Rondo ship, but once Rondo puts up his first triple-double of the season. Fans will adopt their faith. I honestly stand by Rondo. I praise him, call him out, but when it comes down to it. I trust him. He plays with the teams interest first. I trust his character, and how  he holds himself.

"I mean, I want to get better. I want to run off eight or nine games straight," said Rondo. "It starts in practice and it starts with staying in the game, so I just want to go out there and give it all for my teammates and try to get some wins. We've got to get this show on the road. We've got to have a great December. November is behind us. I think we're 9-8, but it's a new month and I'm ready to go."

I love what he said with the 8-9 games straight. He's reading my mind. That's what the Celtics need. For me he gets it. I love how he's moving forward. Silence can be deafening. Rondo doesn't seem like a guy  sitting  wallowing in sorrow. He moves on, and plans to get better. The destination has been planned out. With Rondo it's a ride with many twists, and turns. I love the ride, so  I'll check it out again.

I don't like the commercials. I think that most athletes are incredibly stupid and selfish when it comes to economics and politics, and I fear that Rondo is no different there. I do think he's smart enough and independent minded enough, though, to reach higher levels of understanding on those things. For example, Rondo, do you really want to push Red Bull when there are serious questiions about its health value, and when it is a mega-corporation that does not help the broader economy? If you want to represent a product, why not find a high quality product, made by a small company, which pays its people well and is a responsible social citizen, and help them grow?

That aside, it's weird that all the older writers and media people, apart from Heinsohn, hate Rondo. He's so old school. Why does Ryan hate him? For God's sake, Ryan, you should love the guy.

I love what Rondo said about November. Like what Terry said about screwing up defensively on Jennings, it's so forthright. It's so responsible. In Rondo we trust!
