Celtics Morning Joe: Photographs

Photographs take us to that moment of happiness. They make us relive our past, and they show us what we were, and who wanted to become. Sometimes they can make us sad by seeing how young we once were. Photographs capture life embracing love and hate. Photos can provide comfort for a loss. They give us a glimpse of that loved one who's no longer here.
It seems like every season we fall victim to comparing every single team to the 2008 team. This season has brought up those feelings for the simple fact that the Celtics went out of the country once again for camp. Doc's reminded everyday of the 2008 trip. He has the Rome picture hanging in his office. Ubuntu was built in Rome, and this 2012 team wants that magic. But I think they need to move away from reliving that magic.
Ubuntu can be who the Celtics are. The principal, and belief in Ubuntu is great. But this team needs to stand on there own, and 2008 needs to be a good memory, and not something we try to relive with each new season. If you look at both pictures, they're obviously different. Only three players remain from that team, and thankfully their the three best players as well.
Some nights I go out to the ocean. The darkness sometimes overwhelms me. But that feeling goes away fast. Serious thoughts race through my mind. Like I should call my parents more, and than some really minor thoughts cross my mind. But their is one constant in my life, and that's my escape with the Celtics. Looking at old photos from the 2008 team makes us want to go back. That feeling of winning a title is surreal even as a fan.
I think more than anything with this team is that I hope they carve their on name. I want this team to stand the test of time just like 2008 squad will. The 2008 team was about the Big three. and their moment. This time around it's about Rondo's legacy, and that's why it's so different.
Five years from now I hope we compare the 2017 Celtics to this team. That's what I hope, and I hope to see a couple more banners up in the rafters.

And I love the different symbolism of these photos. That 2008 team was so amazing. They stand in front of the Colesseum and they seem like the Colesseum. They seem similar to it. They are an old team, a team of grizzled warriors, a team that is sure of itself and sure of its purpose.
This team? This team is a bridge. It is standing in front of a bridge, and not just any bridge; rather it is a bridge between continents, just as these Celtics are a bridge between eras. They aren't sure. They aren't grizzled warriors. They aren't a solid wall. They are still finding themselves. They are still defining themselves. They are spinning through space. No one believes that they can get to the other side. Commentators keep saying that they could win if Lebron goes down, Howard's back acts up, Indiana flops, KD loses his backpack and the stars collide.
But these guys are like Cirque De Soleil. They live in a world of their own making, and they are building a bridge to the future of basketball. And we fans are a part of that.
