I still believe that Wilcox should start over JO, and I have posted a few times on that. ESPN had this to say about the starting unit.
Celtics coach Doc Rivers has hinted at times this season that he'd consider a lineup shuffle to give his slumping team a jolt. One potential change the team could consider: Moving Chris Wilcox into the starting group alongside the Big Four.
While Wilcox's defense is a downgrade from that of current starter Jermaine O'Neal, his energy and athleticism could be exactly the boost the first unit needs. What's more, Wilcox's defensive rating is actually a career-best 98 so far this season and having the likes of Kevin Garnett alongside might aid some of his individual struggles both in pick-and-roll and post situations.
The Big Four and Wilcox lineup has logged a mere 16.4 minutes of floor time over three games this season, according to Basketball Reference, but, during that span, the Celtics have operated at a slightly elevated pace (89.4), outscored opponents (plus-9), and dominated on the glass (61.9 total rebound percentage; 84.6 defensive rebound percentage).
It's hard for me to think that the Celtics can count on JO all season. I feel like you need Bass off the bench, and Wilcox has played great with Rondo, and with the entire big four this season, that's a no brainer that he starts. To me I look at the Celtics as three bigs. KG of course, and Bass, and Wilcox. The rookies have played solid, but to say their ready to give the Celtics major minutes, would be wrong. Give them one,or two more seasons to impact the Celtics.
I believe the Celtics need one more veteran big man who can give us something, because JO at times looks like he will retire the next game, or that he won't last all season. It's easier said than done, getting a big man, because I don't want a Rondo deal, or any other deal that will deal any of the big three. Would someone want JO's expiring deal? I don't know, but in the next three weeks the NBA will be on fire with rumors.
