Heat vs Celtics season preview: (1 of 4) The Shooting guards
|
|

In the next four days, will go over the Heat, and Celtics matchup. So, lets begin with the shooting guards. Why not, Ray Allen was the big story, and the two new shooting guards recruited by Doc Rivers this offseason.
So lets start with Wade. He's one of the best in the game today. But when I watch him play, and when I think of his past. Wade has slowed down by age 30, and Wade is an injury prone player. Wade will be 31 later in the season, and through the years, Wade has put his body through the ringer, and my question is. How longer can he play as one of the best? But lets not jump to far into the future, because were in the now, and the Celtics need to deal with him.
I'm confident that if Avery Bradley played in the Eastern Conference Finals. The outcome could have easily changed. Ray Allen was playing on a bad ankle, and of course Ray has never been the greatest defender. So basically this is how I look at the Heat, and Celtics at the shooting guard position. With Bradley you have one of the best defensive players in the game ,and Lee is a great defender as well. The Heat have the better offensive players, but the Celtics have the defense to counter. Wade, and Allen are two of the best at what they do. But I feel that the Celtics can stop Allen. Who can set screens in Miami for Allen? Allen won't hurt the Celtics as much, as some may think. The Celtics are very athletic at two guard, and Allen is in trouble. That's my belief.
If you look at the April 1st showdown in Miami between Miami and Boston. Look at Wade's stat line, and Bradley's. Wade scored 15 points off of 6-of-17 shooting. Bradley scored 13 points shooting 5-of-10. Bradley also had one block, and two steals.Boston won the game by 19.
Bradley can play Wade, and he proved that once again on April 10th. Wade shot 9-of-21 from the field, and Boston won the game. With Lee in the mix now, the C's have another option on the defensive end when Bradley sits. The Celtics will start the season with Lee at two guard I'm assuming with Bradley as a question mark, and since the Celtics will use Terry as the 6th man.
But it's hard to see where the Celtics are going with the shooting guard position. What about Terry? Well he usually plays two guard. But with the Celtics, I think he'll just backup Rondo, and of course Bradley when he's back. Doc has his work cut out. Terry can also run circles around Wade, and Allen. He's a unique talent, and he's a hard cover. Terry destroyed Wade in the 2011 finals, and I think he can help he Celtics dramatically in that department.
I think the Celtics edge the Heat out at the shooting guard position. I think the youth will pay off. Wade will get his, and so will Ray. But the depth of the Heat, and the depth of the Celtics are very different. The Heat are much older, but the Celtics have gotten much younger. Even looking at the comparison of Terry, and Allen. Terry will provide the Celtics with something they have craved. A 6th man that can give you 15-20 points in any given game. Something that Ray wasn't willing to do.Plus Terry is two years younger, and that sounds like the smallest of gaps, but in the NBA world it's huge.
Of course this is just one scope of the Heat vs Celtics. This won't decide the series if both teams meet for the fourth year in a row. But it's a key factor.

Wade will be way too worn out by the time the second half rolls around to put on his little offensive show like he was doing in the ECFs. Bradley and Lee will just stop his little outburst and put him back in his place. PLUS Wade has too keep up with these two constantly running circles around him on the offensive end. He is going to be dead tired!
I agree with that 100% as well!

The Celtics are deep now, and barring another crazy rash of injuries, both Lebron and Wade will be facing some serious man to man defense all game long.
Do you think that Green can play him pretty good?

I know I think he can. He's not a small guy, and Green can body up James. Can't wait to see!

Not if Green had to handle lebron by himself all game, but as a gang of players handling Lebron I think he can make a difference.
Agree!
