Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Sullinger's recent decline

Sully had some strong games in the preseason, and with the recent play of Vitor, and Bass. The Celtics will have to decide on Sully's role soon with the season less than a week away. Of course roles change during the season, but if I had to pick. I would go with Vitor, and Bass. I believe in the long run that Sully will join the starting unit. But right now. Bass, and Vitor have shown some signs of being a good duo.

Jared Sullinger was back at practice on Thursday, admittedly more sluggish than he would like.

But that was a major upgrade for him considering less than 24 hours earlier, the 6-foot-9 Celtics forward was suffering from flu-like symptoms that kept him away from the team in their win over Brooklyn on Wednesday night.

"I was in the bed the whole time," Sullinger said, adding, "just trying to hold in all the food that I had the night before."

Missing Wednesday's game was just another bump along the way for what Sullinger admits has been an up and down preseason for him.

"Camp has been rough for me," he said. "A lot of ups and downs. One day I play well, the next day I play horrible. I just have to keep pushing through and keep playing."

But the role he has enjoyed as a starter in the preseason may not be there for him when the Celtics kick off their season opener at Toronto next week.

It was even hard for Sully to deny how well Vitor has played. Sully has to be supportive, but you know he's a bit upset. Vitor is the only center, and look at the great job he did protecting the rim with 6 blocks Wednesday night against the Nets. Danny may have picked up another steal.

I think he'll make his way back in the starting lineup. And he may start anyway. We don't know what Stevens will do. Either way, Stevens needs to keep the best players out there.
