Latest News On The Boston Celtics, Less Than A Month Before The Season Opener

The media day of the 2013 season was vastly different from any other of the recent years the Boston Celtics have had. Partially because of the many new faces in the team and also because of the different dynamics, the different expectations that everybody has from the C’s this season.

The news that every Celtics fan and every journalist wanted to know during the media day didn't come. The hottest topic, of course, the one that everyone in Boston wants to find out about is the return date of Rajon Rondo.

The superstar point guard is so important to the team’s course in 2013-2014 that his quick return could mean the team’s participation to the playoffs or not. However, the uncertainty will continue to exist. Rondo’s return is still a mystery. As he stated, he will be able to get back on the basketball courts sometime during the winter or hopefully during the fall.

One important aspect about the future of the Boston Celtics in long term is the relationship that Rondo has developed with the team’s newcomer Head Coach, Brad Stevens. As Rondo stated, he and Stevens are no friends and communicate in a very friendly and open manner. Now, this might sound like not worth of a notice. However, the relationship of the best player of the team with a young and rookie-in the NBA- coach has is essential to the team. Especially if we consider that the Boston Celtics are looking to rebuild and aim for a return to a championship contending mode during the next seasons, Stevens might be the key. That’s why it’s very important to win the respect of his players, his associates and also the fans and the managing staff in Boston.

Another player that the Boston Celtics fans would like to know about is Jared Sullinger. The injury-prone forward, who suffered a season-ending injury during his rookie season in 2012-2013, is getting closer to returning to action. He might have stated that he is not close enough, but he will be participating in the team’s activities during the training camp. He is expected to be able during the first weeks of the 2013-2014 season. That’s great news for the Celtics, who desperately need of any weapon that they can have available.

Gerald Wallace’s fit to the team still remains a concern. After he made some polarizing comments, he now seems like is adapting to his new background. However, there are still questions about how well he will be able to play next season.

Finally, one important fact about Brad Stevens is that despite his prior NBA experience, he seems like he is already starting to gain love and trust from people around the team. Of course, he will have to “give some love back” to the Celtics nation through winning games. But the signs look optimistic, at least for now.

Nice piece. Stevens and Rondo - if Rondo is to be the man we build around, that relationship is central.
