For a 13th pick Olynyk seems like a real steal. Everyone has Kelly in their top 3 or 5, and they believe he's got a nice career ahead. Ainge made us all believe that Kelly will be a complimentary player throughout his career, but not an All-Star. A part of me believes Ainge is helping the rookie by keeping the expectations low right now.
NBA.com conducted its annual rookie survey and Boston's Kelly Olynyk got some high praise from his first-year brethren.
Olynyk finished third in the voting for Rookie of the Year at 18.2 percent (behind only CJ McCollum and Victor Oladipo at 24.2 percent). Olynyk also tied for first in the voting for which rookie would have the best NBA career (tied with Oladipo at 18.2 percent) and which rookie is being most overlooked (tied with Ricky Ledo, Erik Murphy, and Nerlens Noel at 8.6 percent).
Olynyk is enjoying the ride so far
"I just want to help the team any way I can," he said. "Whether it's as an asset on offense or defense, whatever I can do. Just try to bring energy and excitement, and a work ethic every day to help this team get better. That's all you really can do. The pieces will fall where they will, but if you bring the attitude and effort, then good things will happen."
When I think about some of the players potential going into this season. It always comes back to Rondo. He's got some raw talent to work with, and Rondo can make these guys, as much as they can make him. It goes both ways for both parties.
