Many will be skeptical about Stevens until he proves he belongs. I think it's a good outside the box move, and I still have doubts, but I believe what Max is saying about Stevens. I think his youth is more of a strength then a weakness. Doc is in his 50's, and I don't know if he had the energy for this, and I would have to say that about other NBA coaches that have tried to rebuild with a team. Stevens is very charismatic to say the least. Doc had that same quality, and Doc had that with veteran guys. With Stevens, I think he can grab the young players attention. That's why it's so important for Rondo and Stevens to connect. They can teach together, they can have the team on the same page. Both of these guys have doubters, and the only way to prove those doubters wrong is to work together.
“At the end of the day, you want a guy who’s a leader, who’s fiery,” said Celtics analyst Cedric Maxwell on Sports Sunday, “now he’s going to have to control a lot of that, but at the same time, you want the emotion of a young guy, who’s going to have to lead young players.”
If I was a coach in the NBA I would love to work with Ainge. He's really on the side of the coach. He stuck with Doc, and I think if Stevens shows signs of improving this team year after year, then he'll be okay. I also expect Danny to bring in talent for Brad Stevens in some fashion, so he will excel, and hopefully coach this team to banner 18.
