Rondology: the Time Has Come

Posted by paul on June 25, 2013 at 2:10 PM

Now that it looks like Doc has finally made his move, now that Doc is finally following (what appears to be) his dream of coaching Chris Paul, I think it should be clearer to folks that it was always going to be hard for Rondo to truly be Rondo while playing for a coach who always wanted him to be Chris Paul.   The next step should tell us a lot about Danny's thinking.  Is he ready to really  build a team around Rondo?   So far most fans seem to be primarily concerned, assuming Danny keeps Rondo, with how Rondo will react to the next coach and to his teammates.  The shoe should be on the other foot.  The concern should be, from now on, how will they react to Rondo.  It's up to Danny to make it clear that that's how it's gonna be.  The cart has been before the horse for several years now.  The horse is Rondo.  Put the horse first.

And commit, Danny.  No more trade talk about Rondo.  Take him off the table.

----------------------------

Ryan and Shaughnasty both confirm that the idea of Rondo leading the team is "ludicrous".

I'd say that confirms the opposite to what they say.  Talk about sticks in the mud.

I'd really like to see KG stay.

I don't think Scal is a joke idea for head coach. Everyone seems to respect his knowledge of the game. He seems to get along well with everyone. Kidd shows that it's not crazy for a player to go straight from playing to coaching. A lot of people seem to want a coach that Rondo will kowtow too, but I think we want a coach that Rondo will like and respect as a person, without there being any expectation that Rondo kowtow. I think we want a coach whose fire and ambition will make up for his lack of gravitas, who will not have a problem with deferring to Rondo, yet who is willing to speak the truth to Rondo when Rondo wants to hear it, and I think we want a coach who is open to new ideas. I think Scal might fill the bill.

And I hope KG stays and we trade for Smith. I'd like to see KG and Rondo as cocaptains.

I really want this Josh Smith sign and trade to go down. A line up of Rondo, AB, JG, Smith, and KG with Sully, Lee, Bass, and JET off the bench is pretty good if you ask me. I wonder if there are any takers for Bass out there? There won't be much playing time for him if this roster comes about. Well... I suppose you could keep him because of KG being on his last leg or possibly getting traded or w/e the hell could happen.

God this off season has only just started xD

I'm not a expert on all of this sign and trade stuff, but why can't we sign and trade Pierce for Smith, but the Hawks buyout Pierce and he comes back?

That really does sound like a pretty interesting lineup! I think KG likes Smith and would maybe be interested in working with him.

It was convoluted before and now it's way more convoluted. I think that Pierce will eventually come back.

Or there has to be some waiting period, or you have to drop a quarter on the sidewalk and leap over it three times or something.
