Ainge expects Rondo back before training camp

Posted by shawn cassidy on May 9, 2013 at 10:25 PM

"So far he looks good; him and [Leandro] Barbosa [whom the Celtics also lost to an ACL tear in February] have both been rehabbing and both have looked good from their ACL [surgeries]," said Ainge, who later added, "From everything our medical staff has told us, Rondo is doing great and he should be ready by training camp."

That's  the kind of news that you want to continue to hear as the months go by. I expect Rondo back ready for the season. I don't expect a Rose type thing with Rondo. Maybe Barbosa will be back next season? It could make it easier to unload Courtney Lee? That's a little  harsh of me saying "unload Courtney Lee". How about, this one. With Barbosa potentially back. It will be easier to trade Lee for a player of use. Maybe a big man?

Bring Barbosa back on the vet minimum deal.

Like a lot of folks, I wonder if Lee can be a better player than he showed us this year? Can that savage defensive backcourt we anticipated become a sustained reality? Can he learn to spot up and cut with Rondo? One of the things your video reminded me of, Shawn, was the way Quisy used to cut to the basket when Rondo drove. He is the ONLY Celtics player who has consistently done that, and as a result he has garnered some of Rondo's best passes. Why doesn't Green do that? Can't we find players who will play off Rondo? I keep seeing guys saying that we need to find a way to pick up a "max guy". Well, I would be interested in Big Al, or J Smoove, or Chris Bosh, for sure (yeah, I think Bosh is a super intelligent guy whom Rondo could feed ALL DAY LONG), but for corn's sake, WE HAVE A MAX GUY!!! We have a guy universally regarded as the league's best threat to average a triple double. We have a guy who has already won three statistical titles (led the league in steals one year, assists two years). We have a guy who has outplayed the best players in the game when the chips were down. We have a guy who makes some of the biggest legends of the game go gaga with his thrillingly creative play. WHY ARE PEOPLE SO BLIND TO WHAT WE HAVE ALREADY!!!

My God, we have a superstar already. Let's start finding the right pieces to put around him. I think we should do everything we can to try to find an offensively minded big man. I know that's not easy. It's easy to imagine the great players we'd like to have. It's hard to make deals and the money work out. Here's the team I'm dreaming of: Dwight Howard for Rondo to kick the ball down to on drives; Chris Bosh for Rondo to kick the ball back to for long Js; Josh Smith to cut to the basket; Bradley to hit corner 3s and destroy the opposition, with Rondo, on D. I know - not many spot up shooters in there!

It's two in the morning. I'm having a fantasy. Kill me.

Paul I miss Daniels. Been saying it all year. He's that character guy I talk about. The Celtics have a max guy who doesn't make max money. Josh Smith or Green Paul? Or both?

It's hard to choose between Smith and Green now that Green has been playing better D and hitting shots. But I think Smith would blend better with Rondo. I doubt if Green ever will. What do you think, Shawn?

And Pietrus, whom I think you may have mentioned.

I think Green will build some kind of realtionship Rondo. It didn't work out through the first 40 games, but Ill give it one more chance knowing the fact that Green hasn't really played with Rondo before, and for the fact that Green was getting his timing and endurance back after heart surgery.

Sure would like to hear Green acknowledge that it's something he needs to commit to doing.
