Oh where oh where has the defense gone? Better without Rondo? The Celtics are slowly showing us they are who they are without Rondo. Call me negative at this point, but the fact is this. Teams have the Celtics scouted now, and they are ripping this team apart. It was another poor night on the glass for the Celtics. A 44-37 advantage for the Grizzlies. The Celtics rallied back after falling down by 21 points when the Grizz started the 4th on a 13-2 run. The second quarter did the Celtics in when they went into halftime down 10 points. But you must take in account the run by the Grizz in the 4th.
Bradley was a -14 in the plus/minus category tonight. I'm not a guy who takes that stat to heart all of the time, but tonight that stat told the truth. I think the critics are right when they say the Celtics will be exposed in the playoffs with no ball handler. Bradley had three turnovers, and a few other near turnovers that were recovered. Bradley's defense wasn't much better. He was picked apart by Bayless for a 30 point night. I believe Bradley is showing some inexperience. I was never a blogger who believe he would come in, and take over for Rondo. The couple winning streaks by the Celtics told us a different story. As for the game.
Crawford showed us that he should start if he can play like this. He's actually showed us that he can pass the ball. Danny Ainge also dubbed him the best passer on this team. It also makes sense that Danny has stuck with him in the 4th quarter in the last three games. Crawford put in 21 points, and he was aggressive with 5 rebounds, and 3 assists. Danny finally went big tonight when he played White, and Randolph. It paid off when the Celtics went on a 4th quarter run. D.J White was a +14 tonight in 7 minutes. He added 4 blocks, 4 points, and 2 rebounds. As for Randolph he played 9 minutes for a +11 tonight. He had just two points, but he added 4 boards, and one block. I have been calling for these two guys to play. For one reason only. These two guys are not Ryan Hollins, or Mikki Moore. They can play, and they seem to be mistake free for the most part.
Pierce was on the money tonight with 26 points, but he also had a dismal 5 turnovers. I think the Hornets game was a sign of things to come. That was a confidence killer. Despite what the Celtics say. They aren't able to bounce back as quickly as they say. With a big game on the horizon in Boston against the Knicks. They need to rebuild their confidence. Or this team may just be who everyone else thinks they are.
Stats of the night
- Celtics outscored in the paint again 48-34.
- The defense only caused 8 turnovers for Memphis killing the Celtics up and down game.
- Memphis had 16 offensive rebounds compared to Boston's 7.
