Calling on Rondo

Posted by shawn cassidy on December 15, 2012 at 9:20 AM

I think  the Celtics are skating on thin ice. They have a mediocre record, with big time dreams. The Celtics have many strong leaders on the team. KG changes things, and Terry has passion, and desire, and it shows. Pierce has been here nearly 15 years, and he's Mr.Celtic. As for Rondo. He's got many labels. Best point guard in the league, or one of the best players in the league. Depending on who writes about Rondo. They'll say he's the key for the Celtics, and we all know that. When the Celtics start the season 12-10. We look at the star. I've been easy on Rondo all season, and I've been behind him. I've defended him on countless occasions through the past year, and a half of having this blog.

But now something needs to be said about Rajon. He needs to hit another gear. Not the game two against Miami Rondo, but something close. Rondo has been very good this season. But it's time to take this season to a new level. If the Celtics think they can coast into another playoffs. I think they have another thing coming. The Heat won't take their shit, and the Knicks are better than expected. Honestly why should I ask for the Rondo from game two of the Heat series. We need great offense, but more than anything. We need his defense.

I don't get what's going on with Rondo's defense. At times it seems like he's trying to lead his man into a trap, and sometimes it seems as if he's gambling. The Celtics offense is better this season, and I'm not worried about that. What continues to worry me is Rondo's defense. I put in the Morning Joe post a comment by Doc.

"It's a shame because someone's going to look at the stat sheet and they're going to say our bigs got beat up tonight. Our bigs got beat up because our guards and our small forwards and our power forwards couldn't keep the ball in front of them. At some point, it's a one-on-one defense, and that makes the team defense better, and we didn't do a very good job of that."

Doc takes a shot at almost everyone, but it's a call to Rondo. Rondo needs to stay in front of his man. Doc knows it, and I find it hard to believe it's apart of the defensive plan?

A leader is needed to guide us in many ways.  Not hasty or impetuous through trying days.  A warm heart full of real dreams.  A relentless force that drives on and on.  Wearing a crown of leadership from game to game.  An inspiring and thoughtful person in many ways is Rondo. To ease our problems and enlighten our days. Rondo is the leader that we need.  An extroverted leader who will lead the way? It seems that he's taking that step. Rondo has the ability to lead us out of darkness into a brighter and promising day. He's done it before, and the C's can't hold out much longer.

It's fair to call out Rondo for his defense. He's the best, and why can't he show it!

Rondo needs to put these players in check.

Great piece, Shawn. Rondo needs to step up, but especially on defense. But here's the thing; for that to happen, there may need to be a different substitution pattern for him. He's so key on both ends that he is surely going to need shorter rests more often. Plus, I hate it when Doc sits him for a long time. Rondo gets cold when he sits, and that's part of the problem with our play in the second quarters of games, I think.
