State of the Celtics: Ainge speaks at Shamrock Gala

Here you go, Danny's comments from the Shamrock Gala.
"Well I think we've played inconsistent, with all the different lineups and different faces, but I like our team. I think there's been a lot of great individual stories, and I'm excited for opening night."
Ainge is correct. The Celtics have played inconsistent. We all know that, but that's mainly do to the different lineups that Doc has thrown out there. He's also correct their have been many individual stories.
Ainge also sounded off on Green. He really didn't speak a lot about Green. But Jeff has been better than expected.
"I think Jeff is improving all the time as a player and we're excited about him, and he's a terrific talent."
Danny wasn't asked about Rondo, but he was about Paul Pierce. And this is what he had to say about number 34.
"Before I got here, Paul was a terrific player and a terrific talent, but until you really go to war with a guy and you just go through the battles of the important games and the toughest moments and you see that he rises to the occasion. I mean, I'll never forget [Pierce] diving on the floor for the loose ball in '08. That was my favorite play of that entire season when Paul got that jump ball. And, you know, 45 points in Game 7. I mean, that's just what Paul is made of. You know you're going to get everything you can out of him and he rebounds, he plays both ends of the court, he takes charges. He's not just a scorer. He's a complete player that is a great scorer."
I love that play as well Ainge. Paul has shown signs of adapting even more this season along side Rondo. I feel good about what Rondo, and Pierce will do, and can do. I know will see Pierce play hero ball at some point, but that's how it is. But at the same time we need everyone on the same page, and we need the team playing as one behind Rondo.

I think, and hope, that Pierce will realize that his best ball will come when he doesn't need to be The Man anymore, when someone else is carrying that burden. To me, Pierce is very much like Havlicek, like Scottie Pippen. He's an amazing second player. That's a real thing. It's not a second-rate thing. Take Pippen away, and Jordan doesn't win one championship. Take Havlicek away and Cowens might not win a championship. The magic that can happen if Pierce embraces the second player role ... it could be amazing.
He should do it, cuz even Wade did it for James last year.
