Lakers News: Kobe hampered with early injuries

Posted by shawn cassidy on October 14, 2012 at 10:25 PM

You sound old when you sky past your even older teammate (Jamison 36) for a dunk, and you hurt your shoulder. Kobe has been hampered by minor injuries, and some worrisome injuries for the past few seasons. It seems like he's always going across the ocean for a new knee procdure. Not only is Kobe banged up year after year, but he also eats away the Lakers payroll. The entire focus has been on Nash, and Howards arrival this season.

But I think a key storyline has been sweeped under the rug in LA. Kobe Brynat is breaking down, and the Lakers have no depth. But their the favorites out west because they brought in an old point guard years past his prime. Although Nash fought Rondo last season for the assist crown tooth, and nail. Nash is still on the decline. I won't go into the Lakers to much here. But their question marks are bigger than most lead onto.

(10-13-12) Kobe has shoulder injury

After participating in practices on Thursday and Friday, Bryant was expected to play Saturday but the Lakers held off making a final decision until game time.

Bryant said he initially hurt the shoulder Tuesday during practice when he dunked over teammate Antawn Jamison.

At the time, he didn't feel pain and finished the practice.

Bryant then spent another 35 minutes on the court working with assistant coach Phil Handy on shooting and ballhandling drills. Later Tuesday night, though, his shoulder swelled up.

"(Tuesday) night it was very painful," Bryant said Wednesday night. "It hurt to even lay down. But it's a lot better right now."

Bryant had surgery on his right shoulder in 2003, but said this injury is completely unrelated to that one and he didn't need an MRI.

(10-6-12) Kobe with a sore foor

"As noted when Kobe Bryant missed Friday's practices because of minor discomfort in his foot, the Lakers didn't consider the ailment particularly serious. But given the player in question (face of the franchise, 16 seasons and 220 playoff games under his belt, pretty decent at basketball), fans tend to get nervous whenever Bryant's linked to an injury report. Thus, even though it's just an exhibition game against Golden State, I imagine some comfort will be felt knowing Kobe will take the floor Sunday in Fresno."

The injuries are minor, but it seems like every season that Kobe suffers from these minor injuries. Kobe has already spoke about his pending retirement after his contract is up. Why would he turn away 30 million next season?  The Lakers will be hit hard with the luxury tax if they continue this. Their payroll is an astonishing $100,180,731. Seeing that number, and then beating them will make it that much sweeter. Don't you think?

But don't we also face the same issues with KG, and Pierce? We do, but we also have a complete team, and the good news for the Celtics is this. We can play KG,and Pierce below 30 minutes a night. If Doc truly wanted to. Kobe on the other hand needs to carry his team all season long.

Kobe will breakdown by the time the Lakers reach the Thunder, and they will lose to them once again. Doc better use the guys to rest KG,and Pierce.

In fact, we NEED KG and Pierce to step back, especially Pierce. But Pierce won't do it.
