Celtics Blog Post New Entry

C's look to go on post all-star run?

In NBA history their have been some epic finishes heading into the playoffs, after the all-star game. Let's look at a few teams, and runs.

We can start with the Lakers from last year. After the all-star game the Lakers went 17-1 after the all-star break. They didn't finish the season that strong, after winning 17 out of 18, the Lakers dropped 5 games in a row soon after.

In 96-97 the Utah Jazz headed into the break at 33-14 for the season. They ended the season 31-4 after the all-star break. That's an epic run to finish the season. I don't think the Celtics have that in them, but a run would be huge for the C's.In the following season for the Jazz. They captured the same magic. They went into the break at 31-15,and they finished the season 31-5. The Bulls in that same year went into the break at 34-15, and they finished 28-5 the rest of the way.The Bulls of course won the title in 1998, and the Jazz played the Bulls in the finals twice in that span.

The Spurs in 2006-07 headed into the break 35-18, they finished the season with a 23-6 record. They won the title that season as well. The Spurs are no stranger in late season runs, in 98-99 they finished the season on a 12-1 run. The Spurs in 2002-03 went into the break 33-16,and they finished the season 29-6. All three seasons the Spurs won a title.

That's a minor glimpse at some past runs after the all-star break. I don't know if the Celtics have that in them, but half of that would be nice, so we can build something going into the playoffs. The Celtics will have to deal with rumors, but some good news should be the return of Bass, and maybe Wilcox, and JO.

I think that if the team committed to Rondo, it would have a chance to go on a run. I also think that if one added Gasol and made Bradley the starting pg, and Pierce the point forward, we could go on a big run.
But Ainge has to make a move, one way or the other.

If they trade Rondo, I probably won't care very much if they go on a run. I will be put off for quite some time, if they go that route. I don't just root for the team, though I have deep roots with the Cs. I root for the combination of the team and players I can get interested in. I like Bradley and Pierce and Garnett, etc., but I don't know if I like them enough to follow the team closely when Rondo is gone. This whole thing leaves such a bad taste in my mouth

Sorry about that Paul. I feel like we all made our choice as fans, that Rondo is the future, and we invested a lot of time into him. I would feel cheated if he's traded. As for the run, if the Celtics go on a run, they could move up to the 5th seed perhaps.

I hope they keep Rondo and go on a run with him, but I think there's virtually no chance of that. For them to go on a run, they have to get rid of Rondo, I think. It's not because Rondo isn't a great player. It's because the team has turned the corner long ago.
