Pierce vs James: The early years

Posted by shawn cassidy on August 18, 2011 at 4:40 PM

Pierce was a proven small forward in the NBA. He helped lead the Celtics back to the playoffs. The Celtics had some success, and Paul became one of the best wings in the league. Paul was a regular all-star,and an All-NBA second, and third team player. Paul was a cocky, and young guy himself, and he wasn't   allowing the hype of Lebron James to intimidate him. Pierce was claiming his stake as the best small forward in the East. If Lebron wanted respect in 2003 as a 18-year-old rookie out of highschool. He had to show it on the court. In James second season with the Cavs. Their was a game in the preseason between the Cavs and Celtics that had some zest too it.

It was spit gate maybe? Paul Pierce spit towards the Cavs bench during the game. That's a fact for many fans, and for some fans they don't believe it. The fact from the showdown? Paul, and Lebron shared some choice words. Paul made some comments prior to the season. He talked about Lebron guarding smaller players, and that he couldn't handle guarding guys like Kobe, and Mcgrady, and himself.

The Cavs at the time still had some bumps in the road to become a playoff team. The Celtics had a streak of three years in a row making the playoffs. The Celtics ended the 2005 season on top of the Atlantic division, and an Eastern conference hopeful it aslo marked the fourth year in a row the Celtics made the playoffs . The Celtics had an early exit in 2005 against the Pacers, but the best was yet too come from the Paul vs Lebron fued.

Gotta like that attitude in Pierce - refuses to back down from a challenge.

Paul is fearless, and he still is. He has the title, and James doesn't. Scoreboard Paul.
