The topic of top point guards is over on on ESPN right now. They put Rondo on the overrated list. Here is the Link. 5-on-5: Dish on point guards.

My Quick reaction
My take on this is strong. I think you could put Rondo on the underrated list,or the overrated list. He could be one of the only point guards you could do that too. Without a doubt Rondo has major issues shooting the basketball, and making free throws at a higher clip. His numbers hit a nose dive once the injuries grow, and grow, and it started to take a toll on Rondo. His record-breaking attempt of most assists in a single season would fall apart in late December. His assist total was focused on Shaq a little too much. Without question Shaq helped, but Rondo started the season with a swagger not matched by any point guard. Some of the injury issues also forced Rondo to force things for other players, and the trade of Perkins just changed the entire dynamic of the Celtics.
Rondo's offensive numbers dropped this season, and some of it's because of injury, and some it's actually because of trying to pass the ball too much, He passed on a lot of open shots, and it really hurt the team, and his stat line. I would Rank Rondo number 3 on the list. I could be a homer on this one,but tell me who else has a championship, and another trip to the finals on the list of top point guards. Rondo is clearly a winner, and in 2010 he took this team a long way in the playoffs. All the way to game 7 of the NBA finals. Rondo will come back with even more desire, and that's just who he is as a player.
You can also say he's the best defensive point guard in the NBA,and their is no question in my mind that he's not. He does gamble way too much, but in the end sometimes his gambles can win a game for us,and yes win can lose games as well.
I'm very critical of Rondo, but I also know how hard it is to get a steal of a player as Rondo was for the Celtics. He took a good deal for this team to build on,and Danny picked him up 21st in the draft with a deal from the Suns. He's an overachiever yes,but not the bar is set for him,and he can't back away from the moment, and all indications seem unlikely that he will back away.
