Cedric Maxwell has been around this team since the 80's, I respect his views on many subjects. Maxwell talked about Rondo being the new captain and any possible trade that may come in the future that has Rondo attached to it.
"I was fine with that." said Maxwell, "I thought that they would, because you're asking him to be the leader of your team. He's been emotionally, right now, the leader of your club."
What makes Rondo a good leader?
"A lot of guys come to him off the court. On the court they ask him a lot of questions." explained Maxwell, "So, to put him as the leader of your club with him having the most experience, the championship pedigree, I didn't see anything wrong with it on my side."
Now that Rondo has been named captain, does that mean Rondo won't be traded?
"I think the biggest thing about that, if you are going to trade Rondo you make sure he is healthy because you want to get maximum value for him.
"So you play a guy to make sure he is healthy and also to make sure where you're going to be lined up next year, if you're going to keep him and start to build around him."
Rondo is safe in my eyes, because the Celtics need Rondo for years to come. He's the best chance for the Celtics, if they deal him what value would they get? I don't think anyone will give us, or offer what the Celtics deserve for his talents. Unless Danny totally losses his mind. The guy has 17 picks in the next 5 years, he's good right? My final thought is that do you trust Ainge? He's on the record saying Rondo is an elite player, a star in the NBA. So does he trade that for picks and potential? If he does, then he should be removed from his job.
Also the only swap that made sense to Ainge was Chris Paul for Rondo, that seemed to be the closest that Ainge came to pulling the trigger.
