The talkin' box score: Toronto Raptors - Boston Celtics 83-88

Posted by Morena on January 16, 2014 at 4:50 PM

Record: 14-26

Stevens is right: we won this game with the defense. The shooting percentage of both teams was incredibly low, but Toronto was still better than us, especially in the fourth quarter, when our shooting percentage was 15%. That’s probably the lowest I’ve ever seen. On the positive note, we outrebounded them, and we also took really good care of the ball.

I said before the game that I was curious to see how Pressey would handle the first start of his career, because I thought he wasn’t ready yet. Well, Phil did more than I expected him to do. Honestly I expected some points from him, but he’s not much of a scorer, and he’s struggling shooting the ball lately. If I’m not wrong, it’s been a while since I’ve seen him with some points on the stat sheet. But for a guy that look more and more like one of those nowadays rare pass-first point guard, ten assists in his first game as a starter is wonderful!! Obviously, it’s not like I expect him to do this every night, but I love the fact that he can do something like that. With Rondo coming back and Bayless in the second unit, he still has time to grow.

About Sully’s game I don’t even know where to start. To keep it simple, he made history. That sounds even scary!! I mean, he’s just 21 years old and he did something that few people do, and the last one to do it with the Celtics uniform has been KG. It’s becoming even more scary. Don’t get me wrong, I know Sully is no Garnett, but to have your name written near Kevin is something special, and it means that what you’ve accomplished is really a huge goal. Sully finished the game with 25 points and 20 rebounds, to go with 4 assists, a couple of steals, and no turnover. There’s nothing left he could do to help more the team. We always say that he gives it all every game, and being so mature, he probably smelled the urgency more that many other players, and that hunger is shown in those 20 rebounds. Or in that crazy third quarter. After the game he told the media that at one point in the game, it’s been Rondo who told him to look at the scoreboard and to get one more rebound. Yeah, I know they’re not supposed to play for the stats, but as I said, we’re talking about history here, and I’m glad Rondo did that.

In the second quarter it’s been Bradley that helped us build our lead with 14 points. Compared to the game against Houston, he struggled shooting the ball, but he still put in the effort, finishing with 20 points and 5 rebounds.

Another guy that deserve some credit is Wallace, who played a really solid game off the bench, scoring 7 points on 3for4 shooting, and grabbed 6 rebounds, five of which were on the defensive end. Bass has the same amount of points and rebounds, but he finished the game shooting 1for5 from the field. To his credit, he stayed aggressive and earned some free throws.

Now, what’s the best part of this box score?

Celtics: Anthony

(not that I’m happy about Anthony being inactive, it’s the name that’s missing that I love)

This is getting so real it’s almost overwhelming. A little more than 24 hours left, and then the Lakers will be in the Garden, and Rondo back on the court. I don’t think we could ask for something more.
