The Celtics haven't announced the Lee deal yet, and it's because the deal isn't final. Ryan Gomes is on his way to the Celtics, and it sounds like he may not stay long.
The Boston Celtics trade with the Memphis Grizzlies has expanded to include the Oklahoma City Thunder, according to a league source.
ESPN.com first reported the inclusion of the Thunder in the trade that was initially structured to only include the Celtics and the Grizzlies.
As it stands now, the Celtics will send Courtney Lee to Memphis and will receive Grizzlies guard Jerryd Bayless. The Thunder will ship former Celtic Ryan Gomes back to Boston where it is unclear if the Celtics will waive him.
Like many teams, the Thunder are also looking for ways to get just a bit further removed from being a luxury tax-paying squad.
Prior to agreeing to the three-team deal, the Thunder were about $1 million below the luxury tax threshold line of $71.7 million.
Gomes signed a one-year, $1.19 million contract in July with the Thunder which has a salary cap hit amount of $884,293.
It's possible that the Celtics will also be including a 2nd round pick
to make this happen. The Celtics will be saving near 12-13 million by this deal. With the Celtics dropping, Danny is by the phone taking more calls.
