The Boston Celtics entered the 2012-13 season with hopes of banner 18, after they lost to Miami in seven games in the ECF's. The Celtics lost Ray Allen in the summer of 2012, but they added two shooting guards in Jason Terry, and Courtney Lee to aid the loss. The Celtics also found an unexpected talent remaining in the 2012 draft in Jarred Sullinger.
The Celtics came out of the gates rough in the 2012-13 season, and when the Celtics entered 2013 they were still hanging onto a playoff spot. The injury was announced Sunday during the Celtics' home game against the Miami Heat. The actual injury happened against the Hawks, and Rondo actually played through the torn ACL.
The loss of Rondo changed the 2013 season, but the loss of Rondo this year didn't set off the rebuilding process. That was happening this year regardless of Rondo playing out the 2012-13 season. The Celtics had a 20-23 record when Rondo went down, but the season was rough for Rondo outside of the record. Rondo was catching heat for the assists chase, and he was being questioned about a range of topics.
Rondo's loss has left a void for many fans, and it's left Rondo's career in limbo. Rondo hasn't been able to show the critics what he can do as the the leader without the old guys around, and he hasn't been able to show us his improved jumper. Rondo won't return in the final days of 2013. But to be fair 2013 wasn't his year either. The new year will hopefully bring Rondo back, and perhaps a new way of thinking of the talented point guard.
The year was also laced with rumors. Rondo was rumored in a deal that would have sent him to the Lakers, Pacers, Knicks, Houston, and the Kings. That's the small list. Rondo did show his humor, his goodwill, and more of who he is as a person this past year while being out of action. He's even showed us that he may have a bright future in coahing. The year is almost over, and Rondo must be thankful, his return is closer in the new year.
