"IN RONDO WE TRUST"

Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Shut the Rondo trade talk up

Posted by Yenu on December 19, 2013 at 6:20 PM

This "in rondo we trust" movement we push here at titletown is a defiant statement in what we believe to be our franchise savior to our next coveted eighteenth NBA championship. Since, I've only been watching the league pass games year round for the past two seasons, I'm not too aware of the local Boston media. But, for the Rondo injury updates, I've watched some of the post game shows this year and have come across this Gary Tuagay character. As of late, he discussed with Boston Globe writer Bob Ryan about a trade between the kings that would send Rondo before we even get to see him. If the news wasn't bad enough, the consigning of the trade has really infuriated fans, stating that, "with Rondo, you're a five or six seed because he's not a scorer", with Ryan pointing out "he's not Chris Paul, even though he thinks he's the best point guard in the league."

Now I've reiterated how I think Rondo can seem aloof at times and to himself, but I think it's been all circumstancial. The team of old veterans wasn't one he could relate to and since last year, he's made it a point to be leader to the younger players on and off the court. Look, I like his antics with the media, I like how he can be a jerk to reporters and a bully on the court, it's refreshing. One thing I can't stand are subjective fans who don't like his "style" so they have to lie about his substance, his game. The man is on his way to the hall of fame, whether people like it or not, and he did all of that work as a Celtic.

Chances of a player coming along in trade or through the draft that could affect an NBA game the way he has is slim, real slim. No point guard can stay in front of him, no point guard can consistently score on him and none have played up to his level in the postseason (none have half his experience in the postseason). That doesn't make him just the best point guard but a TOP 5 PLAYER in the league, because he dominates when the stakes are at its highest, time and time again. This team is currently atop the division and showing signs of being overextended without Rondo with all their turnover woes, but when he returns soon, I expect us to make it a three team race for the conference, I bet Lebron and Paul George are standing on guard for us, we look good.     God Bless

Exactly, he couldn't relate to the old veteran team anymore. KG had a connection with him, but it was still little brother, big brother stuff. Good post Yenu

It's sad that this argument even has to keep being made. I can't even begin to understand the Chris Paul circle jerk! He has accomplished next to nothing, but it's like people want to punish Rondo for having played with the big 3. Chris Paul ran out of New Orleans like Louisiana was on fire and has made it...wait for it...all the way to the 2nd round of the playoffs. Please try to contain the oohs and ahhs folks. He's only the "best" point guard in the league. Rondo put a Celtics team that was damn near on its death bed on his back and within a game the finals. And he's the lesser player?! I think I'll be physically ill if the Rondo haters ever get their wish. I want to see this guy retire in green!

Lol, u had me at Chris Paul circle jerk.lol. I think if look back at the possible Chris Paul, Rondo deal that almost happened. Perhaps Doc was pro Paul, and that's why he left. What if this entire time Danny is the biggest Rondo fan, but because of the past, and because of Doc and Rondo having some issues over the years that the rumors spread.

I agree, Franklin, perhaps Doc was the one behind the bad press of Rondo. Also Yenu, at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if your right about the East race. Although a banner is unlikely this year, it's a great step though.

Great comments all. One thing that is really clear now is that Doc is every bit as much the hothead, maybe more so. Remember, it was Doc that had to be physically restrained from attacking Rondo. Somehow these crazy haters twisted that around as if it showed that Doc was a saint and Rondo a devil, as in 'see how bad he is, he even made Saint Doc lose his cool!' Without a doubt, last year showed some serious weaknesses in Rondo's game, especially on the defensive end, but I think it also made it pretty clear that he carried that team on his back over and over again in the playoffs like no one in the league can do, other that Lebron and one or two others. Chris Paul me no Chris Paul. That guy has cried and whined and he's been given a silver platter over and over, and still hasn't gotten past the second round, as was mentioned above. I'm sure eventually he will. HE FREAKING HAS TO! I mean it's like Lebron. When they gold plate your limo, roll out the red carpet, carry you on a crimson throne, and give you diamond-encrusted slippers, you probably have a pretty good shot at eventually making it to the magic doorway in style at least once. Meanwhile, all Rondo has done is what is asked of him. And way more. He kept guys relevant , and it's obvious now. It's also obvious, I'd say, that there was exactly the kind of tension between him and Paul Pierce that we have talked about at Celtics title town for a long time. Right now Rondo looks like a guy who has had a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. He looks like a guy who cannot wait to play basketball. And now come the Haters. Here they come, led by Bog Ryan. That guy is despicable. He was all but boasting the other day that he had nailed Rondo's hide to the wall last year. He's after it again this year. WHO ARE YOU BOG RYAN? You too were once the young turk despised for his 'tude. Your best friend, Dave Cowens, was one of the weirdest guys in the game. Constructive criticism is one thing, but this nastiness is tawdry opportunism. It's low stuff. I'd say shame on you, Bog Ryan, but you are obviously past shame. Anyone not looking forward to seeing Rondo run with these young guys can't love basketball if you ask me.
