Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Sullinger team MVP during November

Posted by shawn cassidy on December 3, 2013 at 5:40 AM

Preserving the culture that was built by KG has been tough. Stevens has done a fine job adding to what that was. I think Doc leaving was the greatest thing that could have ever happened for Rondo and the Celtics. Oh that doesn't mean I forgive Doc, he's still a sneaky ass in my book. That was all a bit off topic for this post. The meaning behind this post is Sullinger's leap into the leader of the Celtics, or he's just keeping the seat warm until number 9 gets back.

Sullinger seems born to do this. There is a real aspect to it all from Sullinger. Sullinger is a team-best plus-44 in plus/minus this season and no one else among the regulars is in the positive. Sullinger keeps getting better as the season moves on. He's over 13 points per game and climbing, and the same with the rebounding. He's now above 7 boards a game and climbing. Is that all from Sully? His voice and desire to win is the reason behind Sully's team MVP bid.

I know you guys seen the comments, but here you go again.

"Lot of guys expect us to just like tank for [top draft prospects Jabari] Parker or [Andrew] Wiggins," Sullinger said. "Y’all might as well throw that out the door. I don’t know why people keep talking about tanking. We've got competitors around here, we’re not really like that. We don’t care if Jeff [Green] averages 20 [points per game] or I average 8, we just want to win. And show everybody that they can kiss our butts about that tanking stuff."

"Not really happy with the numbers because we’re what, 7-12?" Sullinger asked. "I’m not really happy about that. But I can play better. And I will play better."

Sullinger scored a team high 21 against the Bucks and a very aggressive 14 rebounds. It's perfect game in so many ways, but his eagerness to get better i contagious to this team, and I think Rondo will make Sully into something great. The pick-and-roll is calling them. The only thing that's missing is Sully's ability to catch alley-oops. That would have been nice to see that.

Sullinger is deserving of all the praise, and I know he'll continue to get better this season. He's been the most consistent Celtic and he's been the reason behind the Celtics success in so many ways.

without question Sullinger was the best player so far. Green had the better games, but overall sullinger was big for the celtics.

This is big. Like really big. This guy is not messing around and that just my type of player to ball next to Rondo. Sully's presence along with Rondo will turn Green into a BEAST since he can pick his proper spots and dominate when need be. Jeff is a monster of a third banana. Boys... I think we are going to make those playoffs. As Sully said, Shove that tanking talk up you ass! :P

Sully has been real consistent as of late. Even in our losses he's been battling and putting up decent numbers.
