"IN RONDO WE TRUST"

Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Rejecting the ghosts

Same stadium, almost same day, ten months later. On Saturday 23, Rondo was back in the building where his 2012/2013 season ended abruptly. I wonder what crossed his mind when he stepped on the court to warm up with his team, exactly like he did last time. The difference was, his playing time ended just before the tip off last night. There's a short video of the pre game warm up, and Rondo seems in a pretty good mood. It's been such a relief to see him smile and with his competitive spirit out on display. Just the night before, the news about Rose injury spread across the NBA courts like a fire that can't be stopped.

While I was worried for Rose because it's never good to see a player get injured, especially a really talented one, my first thoughts went to Rondo.

I was like "please, don't let it be another ACL injury".

Rondo and everybody else always said that it's an injury that is mentally pretty tough, and I was scared this could awake some ghosts for Rondo. Rose got injured before him and he Rondo saw him sit throughout the whole season and fight to come back this year. And while he's trying to do exactly the same in a shorter amount of time, Rose get injured once again.

In the same situation, this would scared the hell out of me. You try to play on your knee and to convince yourself that you can do whatever you did before, because you won't tear your knee again, and that's exactly what happened under your eyes. I'm still sorry for Rose, but I'm glad it's something different from an ACL. And I'm really glad Rondo seemd to take it the right way:

“What’s going to happen is going to happen,” said Rondo, whose C’s beat the Charlotte Bobcats, 96-86, last night. “It’s not like he rushed, so that’s what I’m saying. He took a long time, and still things happen. It’s the game we play. It’s part of it. I can come back early and do the same thing. He came back late and it happened to him. It was just unfortunate. That’s just how it is.”

Then last night, I dreamed of Rondo. He was on the field warming up, smiling, with his level of confidence higher than ever. While sprinting on the court and taking some shot, he was telling someone that he was ready to come back, that it was just a matter of days.

I woke up smiling, with my heart racing faster. December is coming fast. I can't wait to see him back on the court.
