The talkin' box score: Boston Celtics - Atlanta Hawks 94-87

Record: 5-10

And Five!! Honestly? I wasn’t expecting this one. Atlanta was playing pretty good at home and for the Celtics, breaking a losing streak on the road wasn’t the easiest thing to do. Then again, I shouldn’t really be surprised. Our team showed more than once that is able to play and can be a tough opponent for everybody. They just can’t do it consistently, as of right now. But I believe this will come, we just need some time.

We trailed Atlanta basically for the whole game, and then we played an amazing fourth quarter, let by Crawford and Bass, outscoring Atlanta 30 to 13. This is so exciting!! We started the last quarter down by ten and we finished with a seven point lead, the largest we’ve had in the whole game. It’s the kind of victory that makes you jump on the couch and doesn’t let you sleep for hours!!

With Kelly out, Bass was back in the starting lineup, and he had the kind of game we needed so much. He led the team in scoring and also rebounded pretty well. Moreover, 8 of his 17 points came in the fourth quarter for the Celtics comeback. And 6 of those 8 points were free throws. In the game with Indiana, we weren’t aggressive as we should have been, so it’s really nice to see Bass attacking the basket and getting the chance to go to the line. That’s what I mean when I say I want the veterans to show the way. You are down by ten after three quarters? Well, you have one quarter left. Don’t give up. Play hard. That’s how you win game. And the young guys need someone to show them how it should be done, so that next time, they will be ready, they will believe, and they will help you for another comeback. I just don’t like that Bass did this after losing his starting job. As I said, they should do that every day, no matter what. No one should take his role for granted.

In the last couple of games Green bounced back from a streak of bad games. I didn’t write anything about him yesterday on purpose, because with him, it always seems to be the same. If I was Stevens, Green would probably be a big headache for me.

Sully, once again didn’t disappointed. I was worried he could be tired after the game with Indiana, instead, he just stepped on the court and did his game, like he’s doing from the beginning of October. 15 points, a team high 9 rebounds, and a couple of blocks. I even liked him getting that flagrant foul. It was hard but not meant to hurt. In the last couple of years, we lacked an enforcer, and after the departure of Garnett, we even missed someone who was able to play hard and send messages to our opponent. Sully can play hard and he’s not afraid to stand his ground. I believe Sully is showing a maturity that is well beyond his age and he’s been incredibly valuable for us. If he can stay healthy, he will be one of the most important players of the season.

Bradley came back strong after a difficult game, scoring 12 points shooting 46% to go with 5 rebounds, and not turning the ball over once.

Crawford was big for us last night. He was the one who propelled our comeback with 10 points in the fourth quarter, and finishing the game with 10 assists. He had 4 turnovers, but he took care of the ball a lot better than the previous night. I like him being so aggressive in the last quarter. After the game with Indiana, I said I was disappointed by the way he played down the stretch, it’s really nice to see him react like this.

Another solid contribution came from Vitor, who played just 14 minutes but scored 11 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. Moreover, half of his playing time happened in the last quarter. It’s nice to see he’s not afraid. And that’s something that our rookies have in common and that gets me even more exciting about them!! As a coach, I would probably be a disaster, I’m too biased!!!!

Humphries and Wallace were able to help a bit off the bench, the first with his eight rebounds, while the second dispensed three assist while not turning the ball over after a difficult game the night before.

Now it’s time to get some rest and then bring on Charlotte, who is actually surprising me a little bit. We don’t have to underestimate them, this year we are the team that is looked at funny. And we can use this as an asset. Let’s take everyone by surprise!!

Thankfully Bass showed up. I think he's been bounced around so many times in this lineup. He's solid though.
