Celtics Blog Post New Entry

Never Fear Jeff Green is Finally Here

Despite, everyone calling this year a waste for the Celtics, the team has looked more like the optimistic fans expected them to be. TOLD YALL! With our new additions, the team looks way more exciting this year, their increased shot attempts and the decreasing of turnovers are the main reasons. Not to mention, were currently a top 5 defense, but like i said, kg and Pierce were dragging us down with lack of defensive effort, as a result we couldn't keep up with the young talent, now we can. But, they say without "a go to guy", you cant win in this league (last years Denver Nuggets). Luckily, despite all the naysayers, the thoughtful and often soft-spoken Jeff Green has taken that step from potential to potency with his start to the season.

Jeff Green wasnt given many chances by the celtics fans, because of his publicized inconsistency. Astounding the NBA audience in his 2012-13 campaign, Green grabbed alot of fans with his unparalelled dunks on big men daring to stop him. But, those stats he had last year were alot less inconsistent than publicly perceived, sure he averaged 12 ppg and 6rpg, but that was while he averaged 20 minutes as KGs backup. But, as the year went on and he began to prove athletic dominance with countless miss matches at the three and four forward position, he earned more minutes. As his stock was slowly climbing, it wasnt until Rondo and Sullinger went down that the Celtics were desperate. In Jeff's first start as a Celtic last year he scored 35 points in a blow out victory in Pheonix, KG was out for rest.

The rest of the year was nothing but the same, multiple 30 point nights, two buzzer beater shots that led to wins on the road against Cleveland and Indiana so the momentum from the promise of a potential superstar began to dominate conversation in celticnation.

He was known for his often aloof performances being peppered into what was a great breakout year for my DC hometown hero. Despite, the off night here and there (that i agree a franchise guy cant have) Green as a starter averaged 20 ppg and 8 rpg shooting 50% from the field and over 40% from the 3point line. That alone shouldve been an indicator as to where his future lied as a max contract all star, the lack of minutes and veterans like KG and Pierce prevented him from completely taking over the team as their leader. Even on the court, he had to share the ball with Pierce at roughly the same forward spot.

Even though the Celtics started the year very undiscplined, theyve been able to stick to what they do best without Rondo and live with point guard by committee by moving the ball, nonstop. Besides the team looking great, Jeff Green has emerged as a leader in the three game winning streak leading the team in scoring this year, and has also shot well in all of the wins. But, most of all, shooting his third career game winner buzzer beater for the celtics (on the road mind you) over Lebron James. For that, thank you Jeff Green, i will officially say that he has arrived this year superseding our expectations, as an all star level player who is rising in the ranks. God Bless

Crawford with 10 dimes tonight. He and Pressey have allowed Bradley to be Bradley. Rondo finally has a backup point guard.

Green is no mega star, but he's still a player that the Celtics need. He just needs to help make others around him better. I still think Rondo will be a major factor when he returns.

That's the stuff celticnation said about him before the $36 million extension, but he's shown he was worthy and I've heard he's shooting for a max contract and so far this year he's played on that level. We need him to battle with lebron Paul George and all the elite combo forwards, he may not act like star but he plays like one, have some faith.
