This is what I was talking about!!
My last post about the game with Minnesota, was not very positive. I was really disappointed by our team, and not just because they lost, but because it appeared they went down without a fight.
The guys were able to prove me wrong yesterday night!! There were really a lot of positive things in yesterday game.
First of all, a lot of guys scored a lot of points. Wallace, Faverani, Bass and Bradley were very productive. And aside from Bradley, the all shot the ball pretty well. And while doing that, they were also able to grab a pretty good number of rebounds. Let’s start from the surprise of the night: Vitor Faverani. The rookie had his first nod as starter, and he really made the best out of it!! 15 points and 7 rebounds. And a crazy 6 blocks. Yeah, I know.. it’s still the preseason, but how can someone not get excited about this guy? I mean, it’s not like this game came out of nothing. Vitor has had solid games throughout the whole preseason, and in this last game the number say amazing things about him. As we all agreed in another post, Stevens should give him the chance of a starting spot. I can see him go along pretty well with Rondo, and he has earned his chance.
The other rookie, Olynyk, had another solid game last night. No turnover in 34 minutes, while he fought for rebounds, especially on the defensive end. He’s been away from foul trouble, but I can’t say if it’s because he’s been less aggressive or just because he’s learning how to deal with it. I’m so curious to see those guy in action!! I’m always very excited when there are young new guys in the team, I don’t know if that’s because I expect them to bring fresh energy to the team or if there’s another reason!!
Another guy that surprised me a lot yesterday is Bass. From the box score, this is the game I was dreaming and hoping to see from Bass. 16 points while shooting 60% and nine rebounds. Moreover, Bass has been important for us on the defensive end this year, so I can probably throw in some nice defense. I can just hope he’ll be able to do this on a more consistent base during the regular season.
Wallace is claiming the starting role game after game. And he’s showing that he can be really important for our team. Great shooting and solid rebounding from him. He had a lot of turnovers, but if he’s really taking on a leadership role while Rondo is out, he’s probably taking the ball more up the court and with that, and the fact that we are a new team, you can easily explain a high number of turnover. The other forward, that will probably start alongside Wallace, is Green. Good game, but I keep expecting more from him, even if he keeps disappointing me. Twelve points with a shooting percentage of 28%, and not very much in other aspect of the game. Four rebounds, that’s it.
Lee and Pressey played a solid amount of minutes but they didn’t seem to help that much. I expected Lee to be better. He had the chance to show his value even more while Rondo is out, but he has not being really impressive up until now. Pressey struggled with 4 assist and 4 turnover, but it’s really tough to be a rookie point guard in the NBA. He showed some flashes of talent, and he has the time to grow under Rondo’s wings.
So, now things get serious.
We finished the preseason with a 2-6 record, but everyone in the locker room keep saying that practice is going better and better. We’re six games away from the season opener now.
