Celtics-Sixers Preseason Game 3 Recap

Posted by Yenu on October 11, 2013 at 11:50 PM

1st quarter

  • Great starting lineup: Crawford, Bradley, Green, Humphries, and Olynyk
  • Unselfish play but almost too much, to the point of stagnant
  • Second team came in at halfway mark of the quarter, bench looks like it could be one of the best in the league this year
  • Offense remained slow but defense was active and has been throughout preseason, I attribute it to our younger additions this year
  • Defensive intensity led to points off turnovers for the celtics, the depth of our bench was displayed and it looked like it would be a factor
  • Defensive game from both sides

2nd quarter Score Bos 21 Phi 20

  • Offensive flow began to pick up on both sides
  • Team shot horrid but surprisingly got good attempts without point guard, just missed jump shots, showed rustiness in finishing off the attack
  • Spencer Hawes shot well from beyond the arc
  • Sixers built a 15 point lead, mostly due to scoring droughts, but what else is new?

Halftime Bos 38 Phi 54

  • Comcast Sportsnet reported at halftime that Brad Stevens said, "they played with better effort than us and while we reacted, they were scoring", that level of play by the sixers would continue

3rd quarter

  • Starters opened the half except Bass started instead of olynyk
  • Offense was still suffering from the lack of direction of a point guard, it seems that until Rondo gets back this problem will persist
  • Team continued to shoot a low percentage
  • Both teams looked sloppy but it is preseason

4th quarter Bos 57 Phi 72

  • team cut lead to single digits a couple times but the Sixers maintained distance and did not let up
  • body language looked "dead" throughout the night, especially at the end

Final Score: Bos 85 Phi 97

  • Final Thoughts: Celtcics looked lethargic and disinterested to play the talentless Sixers, but even when the team seemed poised to make a run, the Sixers were able to outhustle to the boards and attack the defense for instant offense. Seems like the team needs some zone defense to learn how to play together and get back on defense quicker,  but they'll be playing the second game of a back-to-back tomorrow against New York, so they'll have their chance to show-and-"im"prove. The iniative forecast for tomorrow seems like it'll be high, checking the twitter feed on our website, i saw the players did not take this loss lightly. Avery Bradley tweeted, "it looks like we took a step back tonight", and Gerald Wallace took it the worse, with a number of tweets, with the worst being, "We started the game off like we were cool & we were supposed to win the game, and they came out and hit us dead in the mouth." Thanks G. Wallace, now that were clear what transpired lets see how you get off the canvas and fight back.
  • Next Game: 10-12-13 @Knicks.........God Bless

Lethargic for sure. Crawford with a solid 12 points with the starting unit. I hope we see a new Green Saturday night.

@C'slife, Crawford was nice tonight. He was the only starter so far with a plus when on the court. Sad.
