Kings get Shaq as an owner, and they are set to extend Cousins

I know many Celtic fans wanted this guy, and it crossed my mind a few times. But it looks like he'll remain with the Kings.

DeMarcus Cousins nears extension

Sacramento Kings big man DeMarcus Cousins is on course to see his contract extended before the Oct. 31 extension deadline for 2010 first-round picks, according to sources with knowledge of the talks.

Two sources told ESPN.com that Cousins could actually have a deal wrapped up before the Kings open training camp next week in Santa Barbara, Calif.

But even if it takes longer, sources say Cousins will indeed join John Wall, Larry Sanders and Paul George on the list of 2010 draftees to receive contract extensions before the Halloween buzzer.

New Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro, who has been scouting the EuroBasket tournament in Slovenia, is scheduled to return to Sacramento early this week and resume negotiations that sources say are well underway. Cousins is said to be seeking a five-year max deal in the $80 million range that teams can award their designated franchise players, as already seen with Wall in Washington and soon to be repeated this week with George in Indiana.

Shaquille O'Neal joins Kings

"Shaquille O'Neal has bought a minority share of the Sacramento Kings and will be introduced as a member of the team's new ownership group on Tuesday.

O'Neal has been consulting with the Kings since the summer, when majority owner Vivek Ranadive asked him to mentor young big man DeMarcus Cousins. O'Neal has a long business and personal relationship with 24 Hour Fitness founder Mark Mastrov, who is another of Ranadive's partners, and Mastrov arranged the introduction between the future Hall of Fame center and Ranadive."

This sounds like a good arrangement for Cousins. With all these players coming into the league at young ages, vets need to step up to help them grow.

So will the Kings be in the market for Rondo now? I think they could offer Danny a deal that he would go for, assuming they have draft choices to offer.
