Celtics Nightcap: Olynyk dealing with a foot injury

Posted by shawn cassidy on July 30, 2013 at 12:05 AM

This is something you don't want to hear. After a breakout summer league performance, Olynyk is already dealing with an injury that seems to linger on for some pros.

The Canadian men’s basketball team announced its summer training camp roster Monday, but Boston Celtics rookie Kelly Olynyk will not compete due to plantar fasciitis.

Multiple reports indicate Olynyk will attend the camp, but will not participate due to the foot injury.

"He’s so keen about wanting to play, but the Celtics had some concerns," national team head coach Jay Triano told the Toronto Star.

Let's just hope he rests for the remainder of the summer.

This is really bad news. The injury bug just does not leave this team alone. Remember, plantar fascitis helped bring down Rondo from MVP level play in 2011, when he and Shaq started the season on fire. Olynyk has problems with his quickness and lateral movement and now this? I sure hope he can recover from this and manage it, but it's not an easy thing to recover from.
