Kendrick Perkins speaks about KG/Pierce departure

Posted on July 7, 2013 at 5:15 AM

I think some feel this era ended when the Celtics lost game seven in the Staples Center in 2010, followed by the trade of Perk at the trade deadline in 2011. The Celtics lost in the second round against the Heat, and when the season started, and during the season the Celtics were favored by many to win banner 18. The injruy to Rondo in the Heat series, and the trade of Perkins leaves many of us in what if mode. The next season following the Perkins trade. It was a shortend season because of the lockout. The Celtics stumled to a 15-17 start at the break. They went on a run to finish the season 39-27. They ended up one game from their thrid Finals.

As we know the Celtics had two chances to close out the Eastern Conference Finals. The first attempt was supposed to be easy on the Garden floor. Instead James became another player that night. So, no matter how you feel about it. Things haven't been exactly the same since Perkins was traded. He hasn't been the same him self after recording one of the worst playoff seasons in league history. I don't mean to bring up old news, but it's apart of our history, and for me that was the first pin drop when Perk was traded.

"As far as with (Kevin Garnett) and Paul (Pierce) I wish the best for them," Perkins told NewsOK.com, "I've got a lot of love for them, so I'm glad they were able at this stage of their career to get into another great situation to try a win the championship."

It will be an adjustment for Perkins to see Pierce and Garnett donning new uniforms. He played over seven seasons with Pierce and more than three with Garnett on the Celtics.

“It's going to be weird," said Perkins. "I'm just excited to see how they're going to play. You've got a nice starting five over there in New Jersey with Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Brook Lopez. I mean, you look at it on paper, it's just if they're going to gel together?"

For me, it started with The Trade.

The Perk deal,(not to bring up the past) did something to that team then. Long term it was a goo move, but in the short term not a good deal by Danny.

We weren't going to beat miami that year with perk. We had to have shaq healthy or we were gonna lose which happened.

You think we needed both, or just Shaq if he was healthy? I think all we needed was a healthy Rondo in that series. I felt we had a better chance that year then 2012, if Rondo didn't get hurt. The Celtics should have won game 4 in Boston, but Doc couldn't use him, and the same in game 5 the Celtics were up in the 4th, but the lack of Rondo was painful.
