Lee looking to redeem himself in Boston

Courtney may not get a chance to show us what he has on a basketball court this coming season. The reason is for the fact that he's been in most of the Boston rumors, and it was either him or Terry heading to Brooklyn in the blockbuster deal on draft night, and the Celtics decided to move the veteran Terry who would have been no use for a team rebuilding. Lee has some value, and if he can increase his play, and become more consistent. The Celtics could just have a good player on their hands like we expected, or a player that they can package in a deal.

“You’ve got to expect that things could happen — especially where they were trying to get rid of a contract, whether it be me or JT (Terry),” said Lee, who lives nearby and stopped by the C’s summer league practice at Rollins College to lift weights and get up some shots.

“But for the most part I wasn’t even focusing on that or worrying about it. The only thing you can control is if you’re ready or you’re in shape and ready to play the game at a high level. But if it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. There’s nothing I can do about it.”

What Lee can do is work. He brought his own NBA regulation ball to the gym yesterday, and when he tossed in a 17-footer, he turned and said, “See, it goes in. Told you.”

He’d like to make a few more in a Celtics uniform that show his outside shot difficulties last season were an anomaly.

“I’m happy I’m still there because I get a chance to stay in Boston another year and redeem myself, because,” said Lee, “I mean, everybody knows it wasn’t a good year for me. I’ve told everybody that. I was inconsistent. Now I get a chance to prove myself again, so I’m happy about that.

“I’ve just tried to stay busy and work out every day. I mean, what happens happens in the offseason. All I can control is being ready and having my game at a top level when it’s time to go back to work.”

Lee has watched as the go-for-broke Celtics team he joined is being disbanded in large part. A year after neighbor Doc Rivers recruited him, the coach has left for the Los Angeles Clippers.

“It was surprising,” Lee said. “Once you first heard about it, it was a surprise. As it kept escalating on through the days and dragged on, it was like either it’s going to happen or it’s not. When it happened, it was just time to move on.

“Doc actually texted me (Thursday) and we talked a little bit. I’m still a fan of his; he’s still a fan of mine. We still have respect for each other. It’s a business decision. It wasn’t nothing personal. I mean, he thought that was the best decision for his career.”

Lee seemed to fall in and out of favor with Rivers, but he takes responsibility.

“It was a little bit from both ends,” Lee said. “I was inconsistent a lot last year. My shot wasn’t where it usually is, so with that the coach has got to go with what he knows. I can’t blame it on him. If I was my normal self, then it would have been different.”

Courtney will have to earn his spot next season. The Celtics have Bradley as the likely starter, and newly acquired Brooks who seems to be on the higher end of plans. You can also put in Jordan Crawford in the mix. All I have to say about Crawford, is please move him Ainge. We can't forget about Gerald Wallace in this as well. His contract will be much harder to move it seems. But Wallace is a better guy when it comes to defense, and the intangibles.

I honestly don't see Lee here long term. I think his inconsistent season wasn't a fluke. His been inconsistent throughout his career, and in Boston he was no different. I did think the the veteran leadership would help him in his growth in 2013, but in a building phase I don't know if he's apart of the plans, or should be. I would love to see him apart of a bigger trade, and I don't say that often. But I think the fact the Celtics have Brooks on the team. It's an option for the Celtics to move Lee. I will go into the 2013-14 season open minded as it seems that is the new outlook.
