Celtics Morning Joe: Rajon Rondo wants Josh Smith here now

Posted by shawn cassidy on July 1, 2013 at 3:25 AM

Rondo without a doubt doesn't want a rebuild. He hasn't pulled a Doc Rivers and asked for a trade yet, but Danny Ainge may need to consider Rondo on this rebuild. At this point, I don't blame Rondo for not wanting a rebuild. Were not talking about a 24 year old Rondo. This an All-Star starting point guard. Who doesn't want to see his best years wasted. So with the departure of KG and Pierce. Rondo has likely spoken to Danny about his good friend and free agent Josh Smith. This was put out there in the twitter universe.

Rajon Rondo, who was upset after seeing Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce dealt, wants Josh Smith in Boston. They were teammates in high school.

The Detroit Pistons are meeting with Josh Smith tonight, as @WojYahooNBA tweeted. The Boston Celtics are also expected to pursue Smith.

The trade exception is huge that will possibly be on it's way from the Nets, and maybe even Kris Humphries expiring 12 million dollar contract. If Josh Smith wants out, and if Rondo wants him. The Celtics could be very much in the running for Smith. This one could depend on Rondo. I want Rondo to play with guys he wants to. I'm not the biggest Smith fan. But what about this. What if Rondo is the one player that can make him better. What if Rondo can help him reach his potential. I think Rondo is capable of doing so. The Hawks must be a willing partner in all of this. The Celtics have much to offer the Hawks if he wants to bolt. Why would Smith pick the Pistons over Boston? Just can't see that happening.

I think Smith is perfect. EVeryone says he's stupid. I doubt that. He's Rondo's best friend. That says something right there about him not being stupid. He assists a lot for a supposedly selfish big man. I think that says a lot about his supposed stupidity. I think he is exactly what we should be looking for. I think he's perfect. Rondo wants to play with him, and he's someone who seems ready to break out and become a much better player, given the right situation. Most of the talk about him from the smartypants set is itself hopelessly but pretentiously stupid if you ask me. Most of these smartypants commenters don't get it at all, it seems to me. Building a team is never based on certainties. It's rarely based on being handed players that are already perfection personified, as it usually works out for the Lakers, and as it recently worked out for the Heat, and as the Clips are trying to do (you could say the Celtics did it too in 2008, although of course I see that as being a bit different). Rondo and Smith are two players who look like they are on the verge of taking the next step, and they could potentially facilitate that in each other. But I don't see any sign that Danny has any intentions other than tanking and building through the draft over three or four or five years. This is a five year plan, or so it appears. That means that Rondo is surely gone. It's just a matter of when, and how long Danny is going to keep him twisting in the wind.

I wouldn't be mad at all if we traded for josh smith I just don't wanna trade jeff green I even feel at the moment bradley is expendable with marshon brooks coming in. If we can keep green and sullinger and acquire smith that will be a nice forward combo plus we have gerald wallace who I don't even wanna think about but he'll help out also all we'll need is a center with some sort of ability to finish around the rim. I would even throw Fab Melo out there in stretches to see what he can bring defensively because rondo will make sure whoever our center is finishes only at the rim kinda like how chris anderson did for the heat this playoffs. That's kind of a stretch though lol.

Smith will become a great player under Rondo. I agree with rcraig that hopefully Green isn't aprt of this. Rondo will have a forward combo that works in his favor.

I'd like to keep Green, but with Pierce gone, maybe you almost have to trade Green to get Smith, and I'd do it.
