Doc on Bass "I think he is playing terrific"

I have been a Bass hater if you want to call me that. Lately he's become a new man, or the player from last year who played well when the team needed him to.  Bass scored a team-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with six rebounds, and it wasn't forgettable. He made key dunks, and rebounds, and he didn't play small, he used his girth.

“The ball kept finding Brandon wide open,” coach Doc Rivers said. “He knows what to do when he gets the ball. It’s leather; he’s shooting it.”

The issue for Bass this season has been his timid play. He can make most jumpers, and his first step is great. No pass Bass was passing more then he should have, and now he's confident and comfortable with this new looking team. It makes sense to me why Bass couldn't get anything going for the past couple of months. Rondo was able to find him in his spots. The Celtics are finally learning how to find him without a pure point guard to get him the ball.

“Overall, I think he is playing terrific,” Rivers said. “I think he’s in a wonderful place right now.”

He's really playing the way the Celtics need him to. They don't need him to score 20 a night. The Celtics just need him to make shots when they find him. A timid Bass is not a good thing for the Celts.

“(It’s) just being clutter-free mentally,” Bass said. “You just try not to think so much and just go out there and play and give it maximum effort.

“You want to play well. Being that you want to play well, over thinking gets in the way some times."

Every player counts without Rondo, and Bass is no different. This is a team first game plan now, and they can't rely on one guy saving the day. Even if Pierce, Green, and KG could deliver on that. Bass is averaging 17 points and 6.5 rebounds in the past three games. Perfect production from Bass. I hope it continues. The new starting unit with Green at the three and Paul at the two seems good to me. It allows Bass to start, and it's the best thing for him at this point.
