Recap: C's win behind bench, 87-79 over the Suns

Posted by shawn cassidy on January 9, 2013 at 10:10 PM

The bench bailed the starters out tonight. The defense bailed out the offense as well. Jeff Green scored a team-high 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Green had a big game after having heart surgery just a year ago. Green was aggressive from the word go. He had three monster dunks, and he was attacking when he had daylight to the rim.

Sullinger picked up his second career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Sully has been the answer when it comes to rebounding. The Celtics have been apart of many rumors, and Sully is in the mix of many rumored deals. The Celtics would be idiots to trade him. Bradley sparked the defense again, and everyone followed. The Celtics allowed the Suns to 39.3 percent shooting, and 33-of-84 overall. Rondo was the defensive coach on the bench for a good chunk in the 4th quarter. He was given a tech after yapping to Tucker who was also given a tech when he barked back.

The Celtics blew an 11 point lead in the 3rd quarter. The Suns eventually took the lead back, but the Celtics snapped out of it. The Celtics would keep around a 7-12 point lead for most of the game. The story was the bench out scoring the starters 47-40.

I thought the Suns would come back, and win. Another sign the Celtics may be done messing around.

What do you mean, Shawn, that Rondo was the defensive coach from the bench?

Rondo took over the role that coach Thibs had when he was on the sideline with Doc. Rondo was calling out plays to the defense, and he was into the game even on the bench. Rondo may be a lot of things to other people. But Rondo wasn't doing that in the past.

I think it's great too, and it sounds like a development I had been expecting to see from Rondo this year. Thanks for the explanation, Shawn.
